Refurbished Solar Panel purchase at MicroCenter

[Vent Mode ON]
So, I was at Micro Center in Tustin, CA last week, and saw many boxes of refurbished Wyze Solar Panels

I grabbed two of them, since they said on the “In the Box” label that included was a Type-C Cable.

One box had the Type-C cable that plugs into the Wyze Battery Cam Pro. The other Box had an adapter for the WCO v1/v2.

I was expecting a Wyze Solar Panel USB-C Adapter Cable in both boxes.

I contacted Micro Center, they said no problem bring it back, we’ll exchange it.

I live an hour south of Tustin, CA and won’t be making a two hour trip to do this exchange.

Micro Center via thier chat said to contact Wyze.

I sighed.

I knew where that would end up.

I reached out anyway.

Only to be told "We are out stock’ of the Wyze Solar Panel USB-C Adapter Cable, and then they referred me back to Micro Center.

Note to Self… Open the box in the parking lot before leaving Micro Center.

Sigh…

Does anyone have a Wyze Solar Panel USB-C Adapter Cable laying around that they want to sell?..

Open the box in the store before paying and make sure it’s complete. It’s a refurbished unit; they will understand.

I also learned my lesson. I bought a refurbished 27-inch 4k monitor. I didn’t check but the stand was missing. Fortunately I didn’t need it as I was replacing a failed monitor already on a desk mount.

I’ve had something similar a few times, and I’ll tell you what I did:

I went on Amazon and bought a Female Micro-USB to Male USB-C adapter. Then wrap the connection in self fusing silicone tape (I prefer clear, but you can get the color to match your cords). Now it’s waterproof and good to go. Worked great for me. You can actually get self-fusing silicone tape from anymore, including Amazon, but it’s really affordable on Temu.

You can also do the same with a female mUSB to female USB-A (or USB-C) and just link the original Wyze cable (or any other cable) to the solar panel and wrap up the connection. I have done this as well.

An alternative is to wrap it plastic wrap, then put something around it to hold it in place (something unlikely to be ruined or loosened by bad weather over time). This was what I did with my first connection, and then later after I got self fusing silicone tape, I replaced it.

This has allowed me to get any number of adapters really cheap from anywhere and had them still work great.

Is amazing. I learned about it while working in the US Navy in the mid 80s. Provides a great seal and support.
