I have a 3 year old Pixel 6 Pro. I plan on keeping it as long as it gets Android updates.

I have a deactivated (no cell service) Samsung Galaxy S5 I use as an MP3 player. The S5 has a SD card slot, removable battery and a headphone jack.

I used to try to use the same phone for as long as possible to save money.

Recently I ran the math and found that overall it ended up being close to the same cost for me to upgrade every year (with Google Pixel’s highest end flagship models) because I get a much bigger discount if I trade in the latest model and do preorder and get the extra Google discounts
vs hang on to the model for a few more years and have to pay more money with less of an upgrade discount, and possibly a really weak battery or having had to pay to replace the battery (and possibly reduce the resale value from opening up the phone, etc). Overall the pricing made a lot more sense for me to just trade it in every year, get a new phone with new battery, fresh components, etc. I also buy it all up front (not in payments). For me, the math showed the cost was similar or cheaper with a much better experience and keeping new stuff, and making sure I always have the latest security updates, etc (which is critical for me).

So
I’ve been converted to updating every year now. :man_shrugging:

Though the math could work differently for other people depending on different variables which may not be the same as mine.

I’ve had the same model iPhone 11 for five years although my phone is four years old. The original died couple weeks after the warranty expired and the Apple support suggested I contact Apple headquarters and see what they say. They gave me a new phone for being a loyal customer.

I plan to keep the phone till Apple stops supporting it which will be next year. .Even though it is four years old, I haven’t noticed being any slower that when it was new and the battery capacity is at 84% so I have no need to replace it.

I love being the outlier! No one will admit having an older phone than me! I rock!  :frog:

I mean, I still have a functional Sony Ericsson T68 from the early 2000s, and a functional Palm Centro from the mid to late 2000s. Does that count?

I also have an old iPhone 6s I use sometimes still if someone is having an issue with iOS. I bought it specifically to test iOS with first Apple product I ever bought and only to use for testing
Well, that and to use for a couple of eufy tags on the find my network.

My first. I’d still be using it if they’d let me.

If I had any real graphics skills I might paste the Wyze app onto that teensy screen (or at least the logo and Never wonder!)

This was my favorite Motorola phone before texting and Apps were a big thing. Very light weight and easy to make and answer calls.

The thing is, since Wyze supports Android 9 and up they are effectively suborning old and underpowered phone use with their shiny new (heavy) app.

You mean something like this

Although my primary phone replaced it for most things a few years ago, I still use a Motorola moto g⁷ (purchased in 2019) for podcast listening, browsing, and other things.
