Phantom doorbell chimes

Anybody else getting phantom doorbell chimes? The chime will go off randomly. Tis the season for ding ding ditch, but no one is ever at the door. There is no notification on the app and nearby cameras show no one was there to ring it. I’d swear I was hearing things but the wife hears it, and the dog makes sure everyone knows he heard it too!

This happened to me sometime last week. I went 2x to the door to check. Surprisingly, I have a routine that makes an announcement when the doorbell is pressed and there was no such announcement both times, meaning no one pressed the doorbell.

This started to happen to us today (02-27-22). The doorbell rang on 2 occasions, nobody was outside, and nothing was recorded on the camera too. Strange, sounds like one of those ghost shows I watch on TV. We had the Wyze for 4 moths now and this happened the first time today.

This has happened to me like 4 times now. Even my dog hears it and barks but all 4 times no one is ever there and nothing was recorded. It’s really weird and I don’t understand why it happens especially because it is hard wired into my original doorbell chime. I don’t understand how or what could make it even do it. It’s not like it use to happen before I started using my wyze doorbell. Idk but I’m glad to hear at least it’s not just me lol

This has been happening to me too 03-2022

This started happening to us last night as well. First around 8 pm, then again just before midnight and again at 3:30 am. It freaked us out (the ones in the middle of the night) and we couldn’t sleep after the second time.

I have additional cameras in the area of my front door and there wasn’t anyone physically pressing the button.

My wife is ready to get rid of it so I’m hoping it’s just a software issue.

This happened to me about 10 minutes ago on December 17th 2022! I was in the restroom, and I heard my chime and I know I heard it for sure because I recently changed the chime to “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” And just like the others in this thread, there was no event and, of course, nobody at the door!

This happened yesterday night for the first time. The door cam & bell have been installed for at least 18 months. The 2nd time was today. As a first attempt, I unplugged the chime for a bit and restarted the camera via the app. Wait and see.

This just happened to us twice today - after having our doorbell installed for a couple of years now…

It has not happened again since April

I installed the doorbell a few weeks ago and didn’t experience this problem until yesterday, but it happened a few times since then. Has anyone figured out what causes it? I’m thinking that it may be related with the changes in detection sensitivity for the camera, which I modified recently.

Revised: Just installed a Doorbell Duo with wired power and heard chime downstairs repeatedly in the middle of the night. Unplugged the chime and went back to bed, but then it still happened. Turns out the Doorbell Duo occasionally causes the old, original chime to trigger, at least partially. I rewired to bypass the old chime and the problem went away. I can only theorize that the Duo draws enough current when charging the battery that it can trigger the old chime. Still an issue to address in the product or the installation wiring procedures.

Could you please file a bug case with Wyze as I also just installed the Duo Doorbell and it’s causing the same half bell clicking / sometimes trigger the mechanical doorbell.

Hopefully we can get the bug fixed sooner if you create a case with the great information you shared.

It appears you may have missed the bulletin, i.e. several notices here in the Forum. Did you install the dbv2 chime controller or Did you use the included jump wire in the chime box? No one should be experiencing these issues at this point in time. Solution has been well documented here.

No one should be experiencing this? Why isn’t this information included on the sale page for the Duo Cam Doorbell? Chime controller isn’t even available for sale.

I have the same exact issue immediately after installing the Duo Cam Doorbell. I just submitted a ticket through the support page. Is there a different way to file a bug case with Wyze?

Basically they told me that you need the chime controller. I used the one from my V2 doorbell and it still doesn’t work. Supposedly they’re going to send me a new one chime controller once they have some in stock because they think mine is defective.

Right now I hear like half hammering of the chime when there is a detection. For the price they should include a more calibrated chime controller or an adjustable controller to solve this issue.

Yes and I agree it should be more documented in the instructions and and install guide. Not some bulletin or expect me to search all over this forum when it’s regarding the Duo. My v2 worked fine.

What is the voltage rating of the doorbell chime transformer (##V/##Vac)? It may be of inferior capacity and need upgrading. Was that discussed with support? That also could be a contributing factor.

I haven’t received my replacement v2 chime controller but I was able to get one to test and the chime controller does work . So I’m hoping I can get my replacement some day.

Fmills1d, the problem is Wyze should be including a chime controller with the Duo like it does with the v2. It costs much more so I feel it should have been part of the package. It would save a lot of these headaches since as you mentioned it’s not really as prominently part of the install guide as with the v2. If it was included then users would know they may need it when hardwiring.

In Wyze’s defense, the chime controller was an accidental discovery/fix after the release of the duo to make the existing mechanical chime work and charge the battery. That being stated, I agree that the controller should be included with the duo, but how do you handle the logistics of 1.) Including it as an add-on accessory to packaged stock inventory; 2.) Supply to existing duo users who have not purchased the controller; 3.) Refund users who have purchased the controller after getting their duo; 4.) Determine dbv2 users who have the controller but then purchased the duo; etc. Many things to consider and factor in, not to mention the cost to Wyze for such an endeavor. Goodwill maybe, yes. But for a cash strapped company like Wyze, perhaps not feasible.

Just trying to be realistic.
