Pet detection seems to be getting worse. That’s the main reason I have these cameras and it’s not very good. I have clicked the help AI and clicked pet hundreds of times but it doesn’t seem to be getting any better and might even be worse than it used to be.
Wyze AI is hit and miss, some days good others not so much.
They’re probably trying updates
Yeah, I think the accuracy fluctuates. A few months ago, I (and several other Forum users) was getting gunshot notifications from my Video Doorbell v2 for no apparent reason, and I recall reading that Wyze does periodic (monthly?) AI updates that sometimes seem to scramble the virtual .
I think over time the trend is generally toward improvement, but these hiccups along the way are still frustrating, especially when detections and notifications aren’t what a user might expect (too many, too few, wrong classifications, etc.).
Squirrels run by right in front of my camera and it rarely ever tags them. Not that I really want to see all the squirrels, but then it makes me wonder what else it’s missing that might be a little further away. So I end up having to look through all the motion tags which are hundreds of shadows, trees waving and bugs flying around. It would be hard to complain if it was free but we’re paying for this now.
It will tag some but not others. I have five cameras around my cabin. For adult geese and 10 babies walked all around my cabin and they only got tagged about a quarter of the time.
I have squirrels and have never had any tagged as pets. Actually, I have never had anything smaller than a cat tagged as a pet. Plenty of birds flying around also and never tagged. Must be size measurement in the AI algorithm for pets.
I get Mourning Doves walking around in view of my V4 critter cam and they always get tagged as Pet.
I haven’t tested pet detection much since I don’t have a dog staying with me anymore. But my external cameras are still recording the neighbor’s cats as much as before.
I subscribe to the Unlimited Cam Plus Premium XL + Quantum Plan… and with the new NBT Filter, (still a dumb name), I am getting NO alerts from activity outside with pets. Events are logged and I can go and look at the descriptive alerts (still love them) but I’m not hit with anything. It seems the NBT filter only sends notifications from the cameras when human activity is seen. And not ALL activity. It sees my neighbor mow in the distance and doesn’t tell me. It detects it though and logs the event. I think that’s cool.
Additionally, I have a spare bedroom where I have notifications and the NBT filter setup. I’m testing how much it might alert and/or learn from what happens. My cat(s) have tunnels and whatnot to run around all the time… also to look out the window. The camera (V3 Pro) detects them and logs the Descriptive Alerts, but the NBT Filter choose not to notify me. I can sometimes go in the room to close the blinds and it won’t notify me because the event was “mundane” enough?? I know it sees me because I’m in the logs.
And let me be clear… The filter takes over ALL notifications. It chooses what to ding your phone with. I think Wyze is going to give us more control of the “what”, in the future. It’s pretty good now, I am a big fan. I will keep subscribing, I have found great value in Descriptive Alerts and the NBT Filter.
