I hear ya. But I’ll keep most of my comments to myself. Apparently people think I’m negative when I speak the truth. So you can carry the flag until they come after you with torches screaming “Wyze is wonderful take it back”.
. All in jest people. Don’t get worked up over a joke.
If it weren’t Wyze we would have no idea how long it took to come to market. Other companies aren’t as open about their development.
If they release the specs that they are working on now and can’t commit to that with the final product what would the backlash be like? You’re impatient now for a product you don’t want, imagine if you really wanted it. ![]()
I commend Wyze for hosting a forum that allows us to complain, tell them where they are going wrong and what products we really want but I’m not sure it’s in their best interest. ![]()
Exactly! I love how Wyze is transparent but this is downside when they share any info on a future product. It’s supposed to get people excited for the upcoming product not complain when it’s not released on the buyers timeline. If it takes 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, so be it, it’ll be released when Wyze deems it is ready.
Who said I didn’t want it? I said I would be interested depending on the specs and I was very interested because I had PIR. You need to read the whole post not just bits of it
Just ask @UserCustomerGwen how many times I’ve asked them (Mod Edit) about it. Obviously I’m interested it just depends on if it is a good product or not. And other companies are smart enough not to tell you what’s in development so that you don’t get into a situation like this where everybody wants to know what the specs are when it’s coming out what’s going on etc. etc. Or there’s more than enough to be like a car company and say this is the car this is what it’s going to look like and it will be out in 2021. Then you know exactly what you’re getting. So there are other ways of doing it that work better

You are a internet sleuth. Check the FCC public website for the info you want. If it was approved/disapproved you will know. The rechargeable battery is the bone of contention and headaches.
I took that to mean you wanted PIR not necessarily the outdoor camera.
Ah well, I’ve been wrong before, I can live with it.
Been there done that. And lots more.
I need some advice.
Short version:
Our province is expecting the need for social distancing to extend at least into July. I need to set up an outdoor cam to monitor my dogs while they are outside ASAP.
I’m not sure if I should:
- Attempt to set my pan cam up outside permanently (and risk upsetting my landlord).
- Find a different affordable brand that is available in Canada (why is this difficult???).
- Continue waiting for the Wyze Outdoor Cam.

Any idea when the outdoor cam will be available?
Given the current pandemic, I expect they will be pausing work on this?? I’ve been getting anxious again and looking at other brands but I’m hesitant to do that when I love Wyze!!
Long version: (because I’m social distancing and I have some time to kill…)
I lOVE my Wyze cam. I bought the pan version awhile ago to set up outside while my dogs are hanging out and I don’t want to physically supervise. I hadn’t quite thought through the setup part (I live in a rented house) so I couldn’t drill any holes for power cords. I was using an extension cord to just place the camera outside when the dogs went out and ran it under the door (I had no weather stripping for a time, so it fit
This repair has recently been made (yay!) so this is no longer an option. Its a shame really, because the view was absolutely hilarious: 92245950_240791297069417_2660969025713995776_n|399x500
With the entire province social distancing and staying home, my neighborhood has become ACTIVE (not in an unhealthy way, but in a people are home during the day walking their dogs, letting their dogs sit in the sunshine on the step, letting their children play in their yards more than usual kind of way). Not to mention I’m working from home and now spend 24/hrs a day with the dogs!
This is all UNACCEPTABLE for a Great Pyrenees doggo who thinks everything he can see is his territory and that no dog, cat, person, car, or BIRD shall pass. So our outdoor time is anxiety-inducing. The goal for the camera is to have it set up so I can watch live and still work while he sits outside and I can check that he is:
a) still there during his long stretches of just sitting and watching; and
b) what he is barking at when he does is not actually in our yard (it’s also really fun to trip him out by using the two-way audio feature to ask him to stop barking
)
Thoughts? Suggestions for hobbies so I stop posting novel-length questions on message forums? Thanks in advance!
As indicated by the posts above, the Wyze outdoor camera is currently in testing, but Wyze has not stated an expected release date. That’s all we know.
Re: your poll, would not any camera placed outdoors upset your landlord as much as any other? If the concern with the landlord is the size of the camera, then consider setting up a V2 outside under cover. There are lots of shells on Amazon that help protect it, and many people have good luck with them surviving outdoors under cover (even though not covered by warranty).
Another option would be to set up a Pan or V2 in a window that faces out where your dog is.
As for hobbies: teach your dog tricks. http://www.domorewithyourdog.com/trickdog/ Tons of fun and the possibilities are endless.
I am in Canada. I’ve got a Pan and two V2’s outside.
You could use an adapter in your outside light to power a camera.
Wyze isn’t giving a date on the outdoor camera. They have said that it would be the next device released.
You are literally my hero.
I also use a Wifi bulb so I don’t have to turn off the light switch.
There are also these if you don’t need to keep the bulb in the fixture:
Or these, while more expensive, go direct to USB

Either of these might fit better in a fixture that the earlier one with a Wyze power adapter sticking out the side.
Or if you go with the earlier posted option, you could use something like this to reduce the profile of the power adapter:
In any case, there are lots of options.
I use one of the with the adapter I posted earlier. Bulky but it all fits in the light fixture. I used it for Christmas lights in the past.

I’ll warn you that I ordered these myself and if you try to put them in a pocket light or certain types of lights it will block the USB connector and it’s useless. So make sure that you’re using it in a lamp or something similar because I tried using it in a pocket light and once you screwed it in all the way to USB connectors you couldn’t put a cable into them

are you still working on this? my new neighbor is having a house built on the lot, and last night someone came and set fire to what is there. my current wyze cams caught the fire and the guy running away, but unfortunately it was too dark to see the guy too well as he casually walked up to the site and as he ran away from the flare up from some kind of plastic container of some sort of propellant. had i some floodlight cams, we might have been able to see the guy better. so i am looking now, but honestly it’s not just the price of the Ring floods that is less than ideal, but the lack of being able to just go back to last night during a time that maybe wasn’t part of the initial triggered “event”. doing that with the wyze cam we were able to see which direction of the street he came from and what time he even showed up, saw that he spent like 10 minutes on sight, then the flare up and subsequent fire. i absolutely love my wyze cams! but unfortunately they could really use some help with lighting in a few spots around here. anyway, keep up the awesome job! i’m currently waiting on my scale and tracker, loving the lock, just hoping to add floods to the collection!
Welcome to the community.
Yes, Wyze is still working on it. The outdoor camera doesn’t have floodlights as far as I know.
Here’s where you can vote for Integrated bulb / floodlight and camera (not fixture).
I agree, I would like replaceable batteries too! I also have a friend who has a restaurant setup with Arlo cameras. Being a business he doesn’t want to worry about anything ever being down so he has multiple sets of batteries for everything. It’s a pretty smart way to go.
The people who want extra batteries can buy them and the people who are fine with bringing in the cameras and recharging can still do that if they’d like. Best of both worlds I think!
