Offline recording to central hub?

I’m looking at options for someone else who does not have a constant internet connection but needs a monitoring solution. Wyze has quite a few cameras that record to onboard SD cards, but if the camera is stolen or utterly destroyed, the footage is lost. Given the situation for which they want these cameras, either is a very real possibility.

I’ve spent some time looking at products here, but it’s not entirely clear that there is a solution that would record over wifi (wireless LAN; no internet) to a “hub” in their home; however, I wanted to ask the community that is more familiar with these products.

Is there such a solution?

In order to do it with Wyze it requires hacks essentially.

The vast majority of “cloud based cameras” are not going to function well without a constant internet connection.

Look at some of the other brands. @bryonhu I’m sure will be happy to recommend Reolink to you, but there are others out there as well. Look at TP Link and Eufy also, maybe Lorex, though I’m not sure if any of those will support offline recording to an NVR using something like RTSP, just a couple brands that come to mind.

Depending on budget, one of the systems Costco sells like Swann which include the network recorder might be the easiest.

Blink records to a central hub with SD card in it, however the ones I’ve helped people install, the camera quality (especially at night) is nowhere near Wyze and others, and the central hub gets very easily overloaded, so you end up needing several of them if you want to record many cams frequently. It also does not support continuous recording.

I will jump in and beat @bryonhu at the punch

Reolink used to sell an NVR combo at Costco four cameras and the NVR unit for around CAN$800 some time ago. Also they sell on Amazon and their own web site. From what I’ve heard from other people they’re half decent systems.
