November 25-27 Andromedids Meteor Shower

I had fun watching the meteor shower last night on my v3 cam. On average I saw three to five meteors an hour. I saw about two dozen meteors total. Coming up will be the Geminid meteor shower December 13-14.

Very nice! So how did you find these? Event notifications from the camera? FF review of the SD card footage at a computer?

Most likely the same way I’ve found about 180 meteors over the past year, by pulling the SD card and scanning each 1 minute file at a time.

The meteors in those clip would not trigger a motion event.

Impressive video’s. I am going to have to put one of my V3 Camera’s pointing up at the sky.

Thanks for Sharing

You can scan more than 1 file at a time by dropping a folder worth of files on VLC (like an hour). It will play them one after the other.

If you do that, and something like a cloud goes over, you can also hit the double arrow with a line after it to quickly jump to the next minute.

The problem I have with watching at normal speed is it it quickly gets boring, and I lose focus quickly, lol.

You can also watch at double speed, but then I’m afraid I’ll miss one. Going faster I definitely would miss some.

So was hoping for a new tip.

I basically do the same thing with MS Movies & TV. I open the folder, double click on the first video and then use the slide bar to move through the video. I stare at the center of the screen to catch any movement. If I see something, I’ll slide back and forth to verify or move on. If I do catch something, I use the “edit” option and create short clip of the action.

The program also automatically starts the next video in the folder. It takes me about 10 minutes to go through 60 videos. And you’re right, if I’m not careful, my eyes will start to glaze over. :upside_down_face:

I watched the live stream for about 4 hours. Lol Each time I saw a meteor, I wrote down the time it occurred. The next day, I took each hour and scanned through the (playback) footage on the microSD card. My eyes about went cross doing but I enjoyed it. I tried several times before on other meteor showers but the weather always spoiled it. It was either raining or just overcast. Happy to see clear skies on this event. :slightly_smiling_face:

WOW. That’s hard core!

I just mount a V3 on a 16 foot pole and aim it straight up pointed toward the northern sky. And then forget about it for 5 or 6 days. I set up a rule to turn it off during the daylight hours.

Here a couple from August that I found this morning.

I agree. I got captivated as soon as it got dark. I saw two meteors between 6 pm - 6:30 pm after that I was glued to the screen.

I’ve seen most of your clips that you posted and they’re really nice. :+1:

Thanks. I’ve been thinking of stitching all of the clips together to make one long video. Or maybe group them by month.

I am planning on setting up the camera again in December for the Geminid shower.

I’m going to set my cam up again as well just hope it’s not cloudy. :crossed_fingers: It would be nice to catch a big fireball.

I was hoping to catch the satellite train last week but it was too far north for my location.

What is at the bottom of that 8/24/21 2:51 video? Relatively slow compared to the others but flickering.

The flashing lights looks like a couple of planes. I see a lot of those at night on my live stream. I live near two airports so it’s a common sight for me in the night sky.

I agree with @StopICU33 those are high aircraft flying through the field of view. Because they are trailing each other, my guess would be military. If they weren’t blinking, they could be satellites.

Good catch. I was wondering if anyone else would notice them.

That was my thinking as well. I’ve seen the ISS fly by a few times and see the reflection but no blinking. Very cool videos though.

I had sky watching fever again last night and was surprised to see several more meteors late last night. Here is one I saved.
