Until today I have never had an SD card failure. That is over 5 years and many different cam models. I’m sure I corrupted the card yesterday when I plugged/unplugged the cam 4-5 times without ejecting/removing the card. I will fix this (self inflicted) time permitting.
The reason I’m starting this thread is the android notification I received this morning.
Since I have never had a failure I don’t know if this has been available and I just didn’t know about it. Having said that I have seen more than one posting on this forum where the issue is the SD is not recording and there is no indication there was a problem.
As mentioned in the other thread, I’ve definitely seen that second image (in the camera itself) on OGs a few times. I’ve never had a bad card in any other model so can’t say if those would do it or not. Based on your first screen shot I thought you might have an Apple but must just be a different android flavor than mine. I’ll let my current problematic SD card go without formatting ad see if I get a system notification or not.
Are you running beta app or regular?
I see there was an app update yesterday so maybe that added it.
But the release notes don’t mention it:
3.5.5.669 (May 29, 2025)
Bird Detection for Battery Cam Pro: Now enabled — perfect for use with your Bird Feeder!
Shared Cameras on Monitoring Tab: View shared cameras directly on the Multi-Cam Timeline.
Faster Event Navigation: Quickly jump to events with the new quick navigation button on the Multi-Cam Timeline.
Before any wyze haters / “R” fans pounce on my comment about bad SD cards in the OGs, I have two of them where the historical recording is not really critical, and I had some generic 8GB cards that came with my dash cams (which I promptly replaced with good ones) and figured it couldn’t hurt to have them in there set to “motion only”. One of those 3 does glitch from time to time so I put it in the least important/least motion one. My OGs with Samsung Endurance cards have never had an SD card error.
I also have a 32GB card that was in one of said dash cams for a couple years (Samsung Evo, not intended for that type of use) that now had a bad spot somewhere near the middle. It is currently serving temporary duty on a spare OG overlooking my back yard where a neighbor has been “up to some stuff” related to property lines and fences. If I forget to format that one every morning it will stop recording and throw the error in the cam live view screen after around 30 hours.
On 669. The 1st screenshot is on my fairly new a9+ tablet. 11 inch screen so sometimes it will add a second column. That’s probably the difference your seeing.
It’s definitely android posting it. I had to go into notification history as I swiped the original away.
I hope it’s all cameras. If not for the notification I would have blindly gone on until I needed it for something.
We can hope it’s all cams.
Hmm. Maybe I’ll take the bad card and try it in some other models. I have 3 pan scans and 3 battery cam pros. Curious.
Samsung interface is different from my “native” Google one on my Pixel so it just looked different from my notification history. A bit more apple-like.
It is a feature that has been requested by several in here. Would be nice if they’re finding time to implement some of those things (and looks like they added a bit of guest account stuff with the latest app, nothing major but maybe that will finally get some focus).
I was just thinking maybe I’ll grab that card I mentioned when it stops recording next and toss it in my spare Panv3 to see, though I’m not sure if that would be a great test as that notification may only generate when the card is working and then stops? Worth a try though.
I have seen this message twice. I replace card with card from working camera. Gives message NO sd card. purchase new one. Tried to format works without issue but then same message. No SD card. Remove that card and put it in new camera the works. card works in PC. did h2test and fine.
I swapped the SD cards. The questionable card from the OG-T inserted into a working PS V3. The good card from the PS V3 was inserted into the questionable OG-T.
-To my amazement both cams came right up.
-After a few minutes both cams showed data in the SD timeline.
-I was able to view the data.
-Both units did an in app format successfully.
-Ran both units for about an hour.
False positive? Maybe, but some background of the units under test so it can add to the knowledge base. Something is going on with the SD system. Maybe it’s environmentally related.
The PS V3 has been in a controlled environment for over a year (living room). Other than some solved power/network issues a few months ago the unit has been recording to the SD card non stop for over year. I access the card multiple times a week.
Different story with the OG-T. It to had been in a controlled environment up until a week ago. I moved it to our detached shed to monitor an on going project. During the subsequent week we had a mini heat wave in the bay area. Ambient reached 100° but the shed was 106° in the afternoon. The failure occurred on day 3 of the heat wave.
Since the failure was not permanent all I can speculate is there must have been an extremely small change in the tolerances of the SD card and the reader in the OG-T due to a temp swing from 106° to 61° (all in F°) in ~8 hours.
What I don’t understand is why the failure occurred exactly at midnight. Coincidence?
Anyway the reason I started this thread is because of the Android notification and if it was new or I just didn’t know about it. If not for that notification I would not have known about the failure until I went to use the camera.
I have put both cams and cards back as they were before. I’ll keep a close eye on the suspect over the next week or so. It’s only 82° this afternoon.
I would definitely say the environment could certainly be related. SD cards can generally operate quite hot but as they age that can be reduced significantly. I believe the cams are rated something like 100 or 105 degrees environmental too so it could be either one.
Yeah I guess I was remembering a bit low (or maybe a different model) but in reality, once you start getting over 100, even with that supposedly “dry heat” y’all get out there, things can start to act funny.
Even if not the cam, the SD card might be experiencing much higher temps being inside the cam in that heat (with the cam and card both making their own heat). I’d probably lean toward it being the card that was outside and is now inside not quite handling the higher temps well, given that it seems ok now.
Of course just educated guesswork, maybe total coincidence and something else you did was enough to clear out whatever glitch was going on.
Agreed. Although I would worry more about the swing from 106 to 61 in 8 hours. I doubt seriously that the certication engineer said “let’s bring it to max temp, 131, then when it reaches that turn the dial to -4”.
As an aside. I’ve been a bit sensitive about heat as I managed to fry a new black v4. One side of our property is unprotected. No power or place to mount a battery Cam. I decided to try one of those stick on window mounts so I could install it internally.
Of course it was black, the camera was black and without thinking I installed it an inch above the window sill - - - - - on a window facing DUE SOUTH. It made it almost 1 day before I lost communication. It was so hot I could not hold it in my hands. Needless to say–it fried. Luckily I had bought the v4 on sale so I think I burned $20.
Those laughing at my misery. You’ve been warned. Don’t put a black camera, in a black holder facing due south.
Just out of curiosity I took its mate from the sale, a white v4, installed it in the same place, been running since only slightly warm to the touch.
This was part of my thinking when I first bought Cam v4s last year. At that time, black wasn’t yet available, so I picked up 3 in white and 1 in grey, already having placement in mind: the white cameras were all mounted in south-facing windows; the grey camera is inside a window facing north.
I have to watch out for that. But ours is winter country and summer just started. About 25°C. This will be first summer for V4. But had Black OG last year summer till today. So far so good. Both black,
