New Routers, Where's The Cameras?

That sounds like fun, Sam.

Something like “Free Open Internet #6”

But with a really strong password

Before retiring, I used to take old WiFi routers to my office and plug in to power with No network connection. Anyone could connect to my weird named open SSID but would have No network access.

My office computer had a wired Ethernet connection so additional dummy WiFi channels I was using did not affect my work.

Yep, or “Mabel’s House of Girls - Welcome All.”

HA!

Funny stuff right there

This is why I’m trying to update the routers

This happens all the time with the Pan Cams (v3 and v4)

Can one of you guys tell me what’s going on here?

(Pan Cam V3)

Is that something the new router is telling you? Maybe you can only have one of each type of network (IOT, Guest, etc). Not sure which router brand you’re using.

You only need it temporarily, so even if you have to fire up an old router and configure the old network name on there, then delete it off the new one so you can configure the new network name there, that will let you go through the “change network” process with the cams that support it, and also migrate the rest of your devices over. Just plug the “spare” router WAN into the “new router” LAN (don’t do LAN to LAN as that will cause issues).

I think it’s allowing only one 2.4Ghz because it will not work, but it will work for 5Ghz

I haven’t used their newer routers or the gaming routers, so not really sure. I do know the IOT and Guest networks have dedicated firewall rule sets, so apparently it is just getting overloaded.

I’d say temporarily set up an old router with your old network name and password. Then get that Asus set up how you want, then you can go through your devices and move them to their final spot (whether it be main network, IOT, etc).

Thanks Dave!

That’s what I’m gonna do

Is _IOT worth it?

Or will be gimped too much for the cameras?

My Wyze Cam v3 cameras work fine on my Asus IoT network.

My IOT network is 100% walled off from my main network where the viewing devices are, and it has not been an issue for me. I don’t know the specifics of how Asus has implemented it but I would guess it is similar.

I guess if I tested side by side maybe it would seem slightly more responsive going direct rather than via the wyze servers (or maybe it wouldn’t) but for me, having cheap IOT stuff on my main LAN is not an option. I have not seen any functionality limitations, your cams basically just think you’re never at home, which is the case with many people who use these for monitoring remote sites.

RTSP won’t work unless you specifically allow it (which I’m not sure if the Asus UI allows you to do). Not sure if stuff like Wyze Bridge would need direct access or not. I beleive TIny Cam does not need direct access and works via IOT, but I only played with that once a couple years ago.

I’d say put them there and if you find issues, then you can tweak the settings, still keep them isolated to their own SSID but remove the restrictions (i.e. make it a standard guest network with “access intranet” enabled).
