I replaced my V3 Cam, with the latest OG cam in the last month
( I have a 2nd Old OG placed in the same window as the NEW OG cam)
Old OG Cam works fine, no problems at all
NEW OG Cam, records events for a while, and then stops…
If I go to check the event, after it drops off recording events, (Like today) I see it stopped recording events, yesterday evening.
I tried a couple of potential fixes
Replaced the MicroSD with a better brand, — No help, same problem
I have removed the CAM PLUS license from being assigned to to the NEW OG Cam ----- No help – still have the same problem…
Been happening since purchased the NEW OG Cam ( about a month ago)
here is another issue, I noticed
2 OG Cams street facing in the same window
NEW OG Cam, color is off ( too much red/magenta in images)
Compared to the more accurate color of the OLD OG Cam
TOP pic is the NEW OG Cam
Bottom is the older OG Cam
Event records and over time STOPS recording, missing events
With OR without the Cam Pro License assigned
Its has been a problem with the NEW OG cam only
Its a problem even with trying a second NEW microSD card, different brand
The only way I can get it to start recording again, is to reboot the OG cam
And then it records maybe if I am lucky, for a whole day, before it stops recording events again.
Then I have to reboot the NEW OG cam again
All my other OG older cams, Don’t have ANY issues and have been in place for about 2 years or more.
Actually none of my 9 cams, have any issue, other than this NEW OG cam.
I would exchange it, sounds like the SD card issue is a defect with the cam.
As far as the colors being different, I’ve seen others mention that too, all my cams have differences in the colors both day and night. I actually think the original OG over saturates the colors especially at night. I think I actually prefer your top picture as it is brighter and should potentially make it easier to see a face or license plate.
I think I will take your advice, and try to exchange it. I ordered it through Amazon, on June 24th, didn’t receive it from Amazon til, July 1st. as they messed up the “timely” delivery.
I just checked Amazon and the order I placed, and it is not offering return or exchange.
Only offering support…
So it seems I may be stuck with a bum OG cam.
In what you have mentioned about the color, with the dysfunctional OG cam the picture looking better to me its too red/magenta, and is not accurate, the lower pic of the other OG cam is more accurate/ or I would even say very accurate in color.
If I had a choice, I would take a fully working OG cam, and wouldn’t care about the color of the image/videos.
Chat with Amazon (even though it is sometimes a pain to get to that point) and they’ll usually make an exception for a couple of days, especially if you just want to exchange (which means legitimately defective in their mind). If not, Wyze will replace it under warranty, often not even requiring you to ship the old one back. But they may require you to jump through some hoops and do the troubleshooting script, so exchanging is easier.
Obviously colors are subjective and when you’re used to one thing or compare things side by side, differences become more obvious. When I first got my v4 and put it in the same place I had an OG, I realized just how oversaturated the OG colors were at night, but also that the v4 was a bit understated. Then during the day I felt the OG looked a bit better color wise, but the v4 was much sharper. Actually I have a post on here showing the comparison between the two. But since then it really hasn’t ever been something I’ve noticed.
In reality, the videos from both cams are perfectly usable and when not comparing them side by side both look perfectly fine, so hasn’t been a big deal for me. For me it is more about clarity than color accuracy so that’s why your top pic seems better to me.
Hi Dave, I had taken your advice
I contacted Amazon support, explain the situation. They allowed me to return it, and receive a credit. Oddly not an exchange. I had already dropped it off and received the Amazon email on issuing the credit.
Overall, I am starting to think, Just take one of my other exising OG cams and just place it in the front window, to replace my V3 cam, and then take that older v3cam and just use it in a less important location at home. And not bother reordering a NEW OG replacement.
So everything worked out, not the way I originally planned, but the alternative works and saves spending more money
Totally agree with everything you have said.
Overall I have a few V2’s left, V3’s and OG’s
Each class of cam, the colors are different.
I was just surprised that the NEW OG, did not match the Old OG cam images/video
I do find, my Old OG cam’s that point at our yard, are oversaturated, as the lawn looks MUCH better through the Old OG cams, then it actually is
Oversaturated green
Totally agree with you
Image color is not really relevant
Image resolution is
Same for mine on OG vs v4 (the oversaturation is even more evident in the first post of that thread at night). Although I think my OG is actually closer to reality in the daytime comparison than the v4.
Keep an eye out around black friday through xmas, usually some good deals, could give the v4 a shot or one of the others (if you decide you still want a new cam and/or depending how you like the images in the post above). The v4 has definitely been sharper images for me even if the colors are more muted than the OG.
If I understand you correctly is that the OG, is more saturated then the V4 ?
How is the V4 cam?
Have Wyze tried with the New v4 cam, to push more people to rely upon the cloud, and at the same time, loose “local” features?
I re-inventoried all my cams, and realize I dont have an OG in a non important area of the house/property. That I can switch with my front window v3 Cam that I had just tried replacing with the NEW OG that was a problem. So I am going to have to buy another cam, to replace my front window V3…I tried for the OG, because it was cheap, and better image quality than the v3, the V4 is more expensive, and I am concerned that Wyze takes away LOCAL features, with each new cam version, trying to push more people to the cloud. It’s one of the reasons I never considered V4 cams..
Overall, I will have to keep my eyes out for any sales…I guess the end of summer holiday weekend would be the next sales event for retailers.
I have five V4 cams and they all work great. No sure what you mean by Local Features but all my cams record 24/7 continuous to 256GB Micro SD cards as well a cloud recording. I also think they are currently testing the Beta RTSP for the V4 for those who want to use it when available . V4 is a good cam, color looks good to me day or night.
Lucia likes her V4:
Nice quality images..
When I look at the images of your yard, I feel as if I am actually there, looking out the window.
Color seems good too.
When I said losing features, I should have said losing features, not local features
V3, V2;s support Cam Plus Lite, where as OG, and going forward model cams do not.
Call me cheap, for not buying the Cam Unlimited, ( which I have had in the past) but been trying to nibble down all my life expenses, since cost of everything has gone up for the last 4-5 years.
Oddly I dont see the option for Cam Plus Lite I think the are getting rid of the option.
V4’s seem pretty good, but $44+ per cam, a bit much for me, I ended up re-ordering another OG cam to replace the last NEW OG problematic cam, that I recently purchased, and just returned and received credit for by Amazon.
Maybe I will wait for the next sale, and buy 2 V4’s, if the sale price is right, to replace some of my older V3’s
How is the V4 responsiveness, compared to V3’s and OG’s?
P.S. I would swear you live in California, as I noticed all the homes, there seems to be no green lawns, usually due to droughts?
Yikes, I didn’t know the price went up that high, all of mine were purchased in the $25.00 range.
I also have five V3 cams, I think the V4 responsiveness is a little bit better than the V3. Yes it is Califorrnia and the lawn is brown probably because I killed it long ago. I’m a New York State native, real rural N.Y. and was used to green grass. When I got this house 40 years ago I didn’t know that the type of grass here naturally turned brown in the summer even if you flood the lawn with water so I mowed it down to the dirt. It does turn green again in the late fall and spring if we get rain. We also have an allotted amount of water per month which is actually more than I would ever use (1000 gal/day) before you have to pay the big bucks. The weeds grow just great though.
The v4 is basically like an “OG Pro”. Has the built in spotlight (with two brightness levels), higher resolution, etc. They both function the same as far as recording to SD card and not having a subscription, nothing has been removed.
If you look at the link I posted there is a comparison of the images from an original OG and a v4 in the same spot (both night and day). I’d say the colors are a bit oversaturated on the OG and a bit under on the v4 but I like the v4 image better, both due to being sharper and also brighter/less saturated. I guess it is probably similar to your comparison of the two OG images, each is a bit on either side of “just right”.
I’d say the only thing I’ve noticed about the v4 is that it is more prone to triggering an event from lighting changes. In my case the area gets washed with headlights at night. The OG had a firmware that specifically improved this to the point where it hardly ever triggered, but the v4 does frequently. Not a big deal for me, but it might be for some.
When they go on sale the v4 can be gotten for around $20 to $25. Mine was actually $17 I believe sometime around Xmas 2024. I believe last year there was a deal on a 2 pack for around $35 (for both) around black friday.
Yea, that is what the V4 is listed for on Wyze’s web site.
I searched online,…I see Best Buy, and Home Depot have it for $35.99, so its a bit cheaper.
If I wait until the next Amazon Prime day event, or the end of summer sales, maybe they will have it for $29-$30 each…
“”" [quote=“Antonius, post:14, topic:344138”]
I think the V4 responsiveness is a little bit better than the V3.

Hmmm I would have thought the V4’s would be moderately more responsive, compared to the V3’s…V3 are old now…
I noticed your lawn and the neighbors, an immediately thought Cali,
My uncle lives in Cali, and has mentioned about the grass situation, and water situation a few year back before the drought broke, and now seems to be back.
Former upstate NY’er? and you moved to Cali? Wow, that had to be a big change..
I didn’t know grass in Cali naturally turns brown, I always thought it was from the drought/s
I remember seeing on the news some years back, a business that would go around spraying homeowners lawns green…I was like holy cow…
Me, I am in Northern NJ. ( Bergen County- mile south of GW Bridge)
Grass, trees, etc, are becoming less, each year, as more and more building goes on, and the population in the areas increases…
I wish for the good ole days, when there were lots of trees and grass in the area…
My yard is my escape, wild animals, ( as per Wyze Cam pics in the past, maintain a tiny yard/lawn, and grow my summer vegetables. Can’t beat homegrown tomatoes !
Fact I have to point my Wyze cam toward my tomatoes, and create a time lapse Wyze cam video…
Ah, Ok, then that sound like its worth buying when they go on sale, hopefully soon
Hmm, If I were to buy the V4, I would be looking to place it in the street facing window, ( lots o f cars/traffic, so if it sensitive to car headlights as you mentioned, I would probably have to turn off the alerts on the cam, as it would drive me nuts, since the cam would be facing a high traffic street/sidewalk
That is a bargain ! especially 2 pk for $35..I would definitely do that
Well in the meantime, I re-ordered the OG replacement for defective OG. expect it to arrive tomorrow, hopefully nothing is wrong with this replacement.
If I can purchase the V4 this fall for the prices you mentioned they were in the past, the OG wont be in the window long.
In my case I’m near an intersection and the headlights move across my detection zone from side to side as cars turn. I’m not sure if straight on headlights would do it or not. My alerts are off on that cam at night, though it does trigger the spotlight to turn on somewhat frequently (I have it set to turn on the spotlight with motion). If I wanted alerts on this area, I’d probably swap the OG back in. Note it is an original OG, I’m not sure if the 2025 OG had that “ignore lighting changes” firmware improvement or not. Honestly not sure why they didn’t roll that out to all the cams, it helped a lot and I didn’t see any disadvantages.
If you get a V4 and place it in a window the first thing you need to do is go to the settings and change the spotlight setting from auto to manual, it is set to auto by default, I found out the hard way. Also turn off the camera status light and the IR lights.
South of the GW, I drive North up the Palisades Parkway when ever I go back home to visit. Next time I think I will just fly to Newark instead of JFK, NO GW
