NEW OG cam - Records events for a while and then stops

I think I am kind of in the same situation are you regarding the headlights.
If a car exits the side street onto the road in front of our home,. it would hit the OG cam with direct headlights..

Outside of that, the cars going up/down our street, do not directly point their headlights into the cam, so it is not too bad in that regard.

I have reached a point I have shut off all my alerting. It was just stressing me out…I figure if something happens, it will be on video.

The front of our home there is a lot of foot traffic, and vehicle traffic, I tried leaving the Alerts active for a while after initially installing the front cams years ago, but it was too annoying with all the alerts…One cam, recorded/identified over 300 people passing the front of our home, other days, in the high 200’s…This was about 2-3 years ago. Since ICE, is now going after the boatload of illegal immigrants in our town, is has dropped SUBSTANTIALLY…Thankfully…I installed the Wyze Cams mainly because of all the issues we have had with illegal immigrants ( directly and indirectly) from trying to open our front door drunk at 11PM at night ( happened 2x, 2 different migrants), to finding one sleeping in our yard (drunk) at 9:00 am in the morning, To finding a large slab of still packaged Deli meat probably worth about $120 or more that was dropped behind our planter, in front of our home, and it was most likely stolen front deli inside the supermarket a block away…

So I am thankful for the Wyze cams, and being reasonable in price, but the Alerting can become overwhelming in high traffic areas.

Thank you !
Good to know regarding turning off the light
As the 2 cams I have in our front window, are within feet of the front sidewalk. If the light went off every time a person past the front of our home, it would be on a lot, and would also scare the hell, out of the many migrants that pass, and duck their heads, as they pass, trying to avoid being recorded.

Just over a month ago, I came home, and surprisingly I had seen ICE ( Immigration & Customs Enforcement) making arrests. So any Light Going off, on the Cam as people and migrants pass our home would scare the hell out of them… many drop their head as they pass the cams during the day, going off at night, and many times would look like constant lighting strikes :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hmmm Interesting I have to look into that feature.
I had Amazon devices years ago with Alexa, but yanked them all out.
For me, there is just too much personal risk/security risks using such devices within ones home. I aslo stay away from installing any 3rd party app in my phone OR pc’s, as each app installed, increases the security risks by a wide margin, and increases the attack surface size…

I guess I will just have to occasionally check manually, or wait for the seasonal sale events. There should be sales events coming up, in the next few weeks for the holiday weekend/end of summer..

I worked in Information Tech for many years, and security and personal security has always been a high priority for me, and now the “AI” artificial intelligence is being used, pushed into every corner of tech, it DRASTICALLY increases security risks, Did I emphasize DRASTICALLY? It’s bad, very bad…so everyone wants to keep a small footprint, on the internet, and limit your exposure, and the amount of Websites you have your information on.

This is how green my grass is in the yard
Never looked so good.

Better than viewing it in person! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s a pic from Wyze Cam OG, older version

in regards to what we have been speaking about with Saturation
The patio color is accurate, as I just power washed it yesterday..

Overall it seems greens and red colors are saturated on the older OG cam versions
The grass true color leans to more pale green, with some hints of yellow in the grass ( which is not showing in the Wyze OG image)

Similar but yours is up higher and looks out a bit straighter than mine (if you saw the examples in that thread I linked to). My detection zone is set to just the brick walkway, and when the lights move across that they trigger it. So I guess you’ll probably have to just “try and see” whether it is better or worse than OG in your case. Actually I wonder how the window would factor in - making it more or less sensitive to headlights.

Same here, most of my cams including v4 do not alert at all (though it does turn on the spotlight for motion so that happens pretty frequently, but not a problem as it just illuminates my front steps/walkway). I do have a “package notification” dedicated OG that points straight down at my front steps. That one has alerts enabled from like 8AM to 10PM (automation turns them on and off). It also doubles as a “someone is at the door” alert cam. That one works pretty well, and headlights never trigger it, though the brightness of the headlights on that small area is much less. But I do specifically remember that the firmware that added that feature removed some occasional headlight false alerts. I have the sensitivity way up on that one (to catch the packages that fly through the air - good ol’ Fedex Ground) and still no headlight detections, it doesn’t even alert when my front lights go on/off.

I will say my Panv3 in the driveway will track and log an event for headlights on lots of cars making that turn too, and it is like 60 feet back from the street with just a narrow view between houses. So I don’t think the v4 is specifically bad at it, just that the OG happens to have that “feature” to better ignore lighting changes. Seems to be the only cam that does.

Be thankful your front steps haven’t been used as a bathroom, I know that’s a big issue in a couple of cities.

Yeah that’s going to be the case with just about any cam. That’s why most of mine have alerting disabled, they are all aimed at areas that have common movement (cars and people). Like you say, the recordings are there if you need to figure out what happened, that’s how most of mine are used. I have one inside each of my doors, and I turn alerts on for those when I’m travelling/away from home, then that one I mentioned on my front steps that has them on during “delivery” hours. Otherwise, they’re all off.

That’s been my experience too, red is the most noticeable difference for me, and green is definitely there too but not quite as extreme. I suppose since image sensors look at RGB, then anything close to those primary colors would be the most saturated (your blue stuff looks probably overly saturated too). Stuff in between doesn’t get affected as much I guess.

Not a big deal, only really noticeable when you compare images side by side. For me, I’m looking for the cam that gives the least compression artifacts (ghosting, motion blur, etc) and I’d say out of them all, my v4 has been the best for that. Especially with rain/mist at night which is really hard for compression to deal with.

I should’ve been more clear: I believe if you subscribe to Amazon Prime then you can use Alexa via Web (I don’t believe an Echo device is required) to set an alert, essentially having it watch for a target price on an item you’re interested in. I did that once when I was trying Alexa+, but I went back to using regular Alexa instead because some skills I’d been using for a long time broke while I was using Alexa+.

I’ve used camelcamelcamel even longer, though, and like that you can use it to see price histories so you have an idea of where pricing might go on something if you’re interested but willing to wait. You don’t even have to create an account in order to set up and use the price watch service.

Oh, i am not thankful, I only describe a FEW issues with the illegal immigrants, I have a common alleyway, next to a 4 family building, that also houses illegal’s who end up urinating, right in front of our side window, that is also out kitchen window, have had it happen 3 different times, 3 different migrants. 1 of which I ended up confronting, and almost got into it with him, young 20 something illegal being a wise asp, and urinating during mid day. right in front of our side kitchen window, ( he was also under the influence, like the others) so I am not thankful.

Well last night I receive my replacement OG cam, hooked it up, and noticed the image WAS NOT redish like the last NEW problematic OG was.

Looked almost the same as my old one.

let it run for 24 hours, and checked to see if the same problem happens, to where it records events for a while, and then stops recording events
And !!!
It has the SAME problem as the one as I returned
None of my other V3’s or OG’s have this issue..
Boy this is frustrating!

4:17 PM Pacific time I got this notice: Probably have to purchase via the app.?

I have performed some further diagnostic on the NEW replacement OG cam, replacing the PRIOR problematic OG cam.

In performing some network diag
This is the SHOCKING information I have found

The OG cam is trying to communicate back to China, and tries MANY Times per second
the IP address is tries to communicate with is 114.114.114.114

I block ALL internet traffic that tries to communicate back to China/Asia
That is why the firewall shows a red graphic showing it blocked the traffick

I have 100x’S of Blocking events in my firewall logs since I connected this NEW OG cam
This should raise a Level 3 Concern for everyone!

I read that in your previous reply to @dave27. Copying/pasting exactly the same content into a second post isn’t really necessary.

Not everyone is going to see, read, or offer responses, to the reply I had sent to you, that is also under another topic, at the bottom of another topic.

So to make sure everyone can see the actual topic, I had posted it, as a new topic.

What I’m saying is that you copied/pasted essentially the same content in consecutive replies in this topic:

I can also see now that you’ve created another new topic (Wyze NEW OG Cam - Replacing the 1st NEW OG Cam I recently purchased - Tries to communicate with China servers), and that’s what I think you’re referencing in your most recent post here (the one I’m replying to now). Please be mindful of the Community Guidelines:

I have ONLY posted 2 times,
The response to you, under the past topic
And then starting a NEW topic with the same content.

I didn’t post the same thing 3 times
With all due respect

Ah, I think I see where there may be confusion

1st post was not today “” NEW OG - Records events for a while and then stop’s"
Was not posted today, that post was 5 day ago, and JUST specifically about the OG cam stopped recording events

Today’s post, was “” Wyze NEW OG cam - replacing the 1st NEW OG cam I recently purchased- Tries to communicated with China servers’ was posted today
Along with the same contenct posted to your reply under the topic of 5 days ago.

Both of the TOPICS I posted are different
One being about the event recording stopping
the 2nd post, is about the HIGH traffic to China Servers, and the events stop recording
2nd post has NEW info, OG cam trying to talk to China servers…many times per minute.

I didn’t say that you did. I’ll continue this privately so that we’re not adding clutter to this topic.

Found the problem with the NEW OG Cam’s - Where Events’ stop showing they are being recorded

My NEW model OG cam, and the last NEW OG cam, for which I had returned the 1st one, onlu to find the 2nd one, has the same problem.

The NEW OG Cam version having issues to where the Events record for a while, and then the Wyze APP shows that the events STOP recording after a little while.

I had checked the micrsd card on the OG cam ,and ALL the events are there on the card

I had performed some further research, and have found this info

So it seems it is a known bug with the NEW OG cam models,

I have 2 original OG’s and Telephoto OG’s. Went with v4’s rather than add new OG’s.

If I knew what I now know about the New OG’s, I would have opted for the v4’s. I still may but the clock is ticking on my return window, and awaiting feedback from the Wyze engineers, as I submitted logs, 2x after it stopped showing Events being recorded, but are not showing in the App, but ARE on the mem card.

Oddly, after my 2nd contact with them today, My cam has not stopped recording, so I think they may have addressed the issue on the back end. I will know for sure by tomorrow morning, as the OG cam always stopped showing events, 1-2 times within 24 hours.
It’s been going well for the last 10 ( since this morning)

Tomorrow morning will be the telltale sign if they did fix it on their end.

If not, V4’s are closer to reality for me. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Today I checked the New Problematic OG cam, and sadly, it stopped recording again

Looks like I a return to Amazon is in the cards
