I received and installed the new Duo Doorbell over 2 weeks ago and selected options meticulously to avoid any unnecessary triggering. I know I can get triggering at night or in the day with shadows and car lights and wind and things like that so I’m very careful about selecting the areas in which I want the cameras to see. Everything seemed to be working well until my old doorbell chime was ringing at random times and in the middle of the night. I set the new Duo doorbell camera up with the battery and the AC or old house doorbell wires connected. I deleted the new Duo doorbell and reinstalled three times and then finally contacted support on the phone and chatted with someone who wasn’t very competent. On the 4th reinstall of the Duo doorbell, selecting all the options I needed in the settings everything seemed to be working fine for about 2 weeks, except about 3 or 4 nights ago my old doorbell rang again a few random times in the middle of the night. Nothing was recorded and there weren’t any unusual circumstances as far as I can tell that would have triggered anything but I still don’t understand why my old house door chime would ring it all! Another interesting thing happened yesterday in that I opened the settings for the new Duo doorbell and had a pop-up asking me which chime I wanted to use, but I had already set that up when I initially installed the new Duo doorbell. This thing is driving me crazy!
Did you install Duo Cam Doorbell with the Chime Controller? If you didn’t, then I wonder if that’s part of the issue.
While it doesn’t appear that the Chime Controller (which is included with Video Doorbell v2) was available as a separate purchase when Duo Cam Doorbell launched, it’s apparently for sale as an accessory via the Wyze app but unfortunately not (yet?) on their Web site, though I’ve inquired about this. (That link takes you to the Duo Cam Doorbell announcement topic for more information about the Chime Controller’s availability. Further down in that topic is some discussion about what may be happening when these doorbells are hooked up to a home’s mechanical chime without the Chime Controller and why some people are experiencing phantom rings.)
My guess there is that you received the v3.2.5 app update, which enabled the option to select a home’s mechanical chime for Duo Cam Doorbell on Android devices. This feature was apparently missing for a lot of Android users previously, and the new app was supposed to deliver that (but also delivered some seemingly unrelated problems with some other camera models).
Yeah, I can imagine so. I’ve had my own frustrations with Video Doorbell v2 in the past and reading about the problems with Duo Cam Doorbell doesn’t make me eager to upgrade. Still, given Wyze’s history, I think they’ll eventually get issues ironed out with app and firmware updates, and I really do suspect that at least some of your issues might be related to the (lack of?) Chime Controller.
