My window cam records a snapshot photo of an event, but it doesn't seem to record an actual video

I recently purchased a set of two Window Cams. I inserted SD cards purchased through Wyze. Both of the camera indicate an event and “take” a photo of the event; however, I can seem to either record the video (seeing where the person/animal is coming from) or access the video (perhaps I’m not sure how to access the video??). Any help/suggestions would be wonderful.

I only have the Basic (not the monthly paid service). Could that be it? Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum, @lkrupak!

How are you recording to microSD? This is set from an individual camera’s live view screen by navigating to  Settings ➜ MicroSD Card, where your choices are Continuous or Events Only when you have recording toggled on (). That’s where your recordings are stored locally within the Cam itself (on the card) if you have that configured and it’s either continuously recording or capturing events, and you can do that without subscribing.

When you don’t subscribe, what you see in the Cam’s “RECENT EVENTS” list on its live view screen and in the list on the  Events tab is a static snapshot from the event. Even as a non-subscriber, you should be able to see event videos from the card by navigating to the correct part of the UI in the app, which you can get to in two different ways:

  1. From a Cam’s Live Stream screen, tap the  SD Card button in the “menu bar” (the strip of icon controls below the live view pane). There you can navigate the microSD card recording timeline, which you can swipe, pinch, and spread to scroll, zoom out, and zoom in. If you have  Settings ➜ MicroSD Card set for Continuous recording, then you should see an unbroken green stripe on the microSD recording timeline.
  2. From the app’s Events tab, tap an event. If you’re not using a subscription, then the app will show you a static event snapshot in this area. You can jump directly to the microSD video for that event by tapping the  SD Card button in the overlay menu on this event screen. If you don’t see the overlay menu, then you can tap a blank area of the screen to make it pop in from the side.

Also, at any time while watching a Cam’s live stream or microSD playback, you can tap the  Take Photo or  Record button in the “menu bar” to capture a snapshot or video recording to your phone’s gallery.

As @Crease mentioned, it can be confusing, when looking at that still frame/photo, the play button directly beneath it is for the cloud video, which you don’t have since you don’t subscribe. But further below that there is the “SD card” icon which will take you to the SD card and play the event video from there.
