Window camera worthless?

I can’t get my camera to notify me of activity, nor does it record events. I have an SD card installed AND I’m in the free trial of the paid upgrade.

Luckily I only purchased the window cam to see how I liked Wyze before buying other devices for my home.

Am I missing something or is this camera basically worthless? It’s only good for live view.

What can you share about your current app settings? I get good results with my Window Cam on a Cam Unlimited subscription (though I also do continuous microSD recording and would expect to have a good experience even if the Cam was unsubscribed), and I especially appreciate the color views I get of my front porch at night.

Welcome @lisamichellem

Can you please let us know what your settings are for the following settings:

  • Detection Settings - This is where you set the Sensitivity, detection zone, etc.
  • Event Recording - Make sure Motion is turned on. In addition, you should set All events and then, if you have Cam Plus, go into the customize detection and select the Smart events to be tagged. None of this will provide notifications yet, it will only ensure your events tab will have items in it.
  • Notifications - make sure it is set to on. then select which notifications you would like to be notified of, located in the management link
  • Micro SD Card - I would set it to Continuous recording and make sure the option is turned on.

Note: If you don’t have any of the services (Plus, unlimited, unlimited Pro), you will only get thumbnails in the event tab. But you will still get recordings on your SD Card.

I have the camera setting set to continuous recording but I have no recordings. I’ve checked the cloud and the SD storage. It only records if I manually record from the live screen.

I have alerts set to motion detection and it’s at the most sensitive level. It doesn’t pick up anything.

If it isn’t recording anything to the SD card, either the SD card is bad or the cam is defective.

Note that cloud will only record a clip when an event is logged, since you have no events being logged, there won’t be anything there. But the SD card should have a continuous recording on it.

Are you using “smart detections”. If it isn’t logging or notifying maybe it is not recognizing any of the objects you have selected.

I am on my 4th one trying to get it to worth. Worked great at first now worthless. I have 6 other cameras love them so not sure why the window one will no longer record. It was with latest firmware. I would not recommend this product at all.

Are you talking about recording to microSD or to the cloud? Have you happened to hear any dings from the Window Cams or seen any error messages in the app that indicate a problem with recognizing or recording to the microSD card or its absence? If multiple Cams are refusing to record to microSD, then I wonder if there’s a slot issue with certain cards. Wyze Window Cam makes chime sounds if microSD card installed and the topic that preceded it (linked in its first post) come to mind.

I’m just speculating, but these kinds of reports about this specific Cam model make me wonder….

Sharing more detail about your experience might be helpful, too, like information about the Settings screens @spamoni described above. Screenshots can be particularly useful.

It’s only letting me post one photo

Okay I got it to record to as card but it’s not triggering any events.

Since you are using smart detections it could be a couple of things. First it has to be able to clearly make out the objects you’re looking for. If it is up high and looking down, or at an angle, that can have an impact. Second, it needs a good connection and good internet upload speed to be able to send the images for analysis in a fairly short time (and this is especially true if you have a lot of motion, as things can get backlogged if there isn’t enough available bandwidth on your wifi or your internet).

I’d start by changing to “all motion” just to test if events/notifications are working. If so, then can try to narrow down why the smart ones aren’t functioning. May be a matter of moving the cam, may be a matter of using detection zone to cut down on areas that you don’t care about, thus reducing the amount of motion events it needs to try and upload and analyze.

Note that turning sensitivity all the way up as you mention doing will actually probably make things worse as it is attempting to analyze tons of things.

Try Reset Services setting, only takes a second to do.

I tried resetting already. No effect.

And I initially had selected only all motion. I got no notification. Now I’ve selected everything.

I actually have the motion area selected to rule out the sky (no birds). It’s only monitoring the yard area and walkway to my door. It’s mounted at eye level. And I started with only selecting motion. As for the sensitivity, I can’t lower it… well I try but when I go ba k it defaults back to max (where it is now). I can’t find a way to save it to a lower, less sensitive, setting.

Sounds like a connectivity issue then, either wifi or internet.

Are events being logged in the app just not notifying you, or is your events list empty too?

Both empty

If the cam isn’t able to save events to the cloud or save settings, it sounds like a connectivity issue. If not wifi or upload speed, then your router could potentially be blocking some traffic that is needed by the cam.

If you happen to have two phones in the family and one of them supports hot spot, you could try running the cam off the hot spot (can set it to the same network and password as your home wifi, then shut off your home wifi), then see if the other phone is able to change settings, if events get logged, etc.

Some phones you can actually do this on a single phone but others don’t seem to like it, so you may not even need two.

I have the same issue. My Window camera work fine for 1 and 1/2 months, then during the night it stopped detecting motion. I have been in contact with the Wyze Wizards for over a month and 3 replacement cameras. The issue with detecting motion has been solved but now the camera will not playback the event. I think the Wizards gave up because I haven’t heard from them in 5 days. I will never buy a Wyze product again.

New firmware released for the Window Cam 5/12/2026

Yes, I updated the firmware with that update, that solved the issue is camera not detecting motion, now it won’t playback event. I do have Cam plus.
