Multiple User Geofencing Geolocation (incl. Home Monitoring)

It would make so much sense, and would be so awesome to be able to use location based triggers for rules in Wyze app.
At the moment, location based actions can be performed via third-party integration, such as IFTTT.
Please consider adding geo-fencing / location based triggers to rules in Wyze app.

So I just opened the app and received a list of new features one being LOCATION BASED TRIGGERS! Super excited I proceeded to go thru the process of giving the requested location permission & setting up my home name & address in the app. But there is no option I can find anywhere in the app to set up this type of trigger! Anyone else experience this?

Oh snap!

But what happens if there’s two people in the house both with the Wyze app?

Could do with an ā€˜IF’ rule to say ā€œIf no other user is in the geolocationā€.

After setting up my wyzecam, a feature oversight I ran into is home/away detection. In short, the app should be able to detect if I disconnect or reconnect to home wifi, or leave my home wifi network, when I do, it should be able to trigger an action (say, arm security system or enable camera motion detection). While scheduling is great, leaving and entering my home is not a plan able event, and the best security system or camera is one you literally don’t think about. Another point that should be fixed with this at once is the return action surrounding schedules.

Example below:
Say I leave my home at 7pm, and do not return til 2 pm the next day. The camera has motion detection on schedule from 1am to 11 am. When I return at 2pm, I will find motion detection was disabled at the end of my schedule at 11am. While this is fine if I was home and it is already off, if a user is still out, their camera is effectively turned off. What the schedule should do at the end of a run, is return settings to the previous state, NOT simply turn them off. These would improve user quality of life. Please feel free to ask any questions you like about this.

I apologize for not reading every post but I don’t mind the cameras recording person movement when someone is home just in case some creep threatens my family or is snooping around my home while we are watching tv etc. It’s just the constant notifications going off when I’m walking around my home I’d like to mute but still record. I’m no IT expert but common WYZE, if other people have done this, why aren’t you. It’s pretty obvious people want this feature. Get it done…:metal:

Please add this. I am looking for a new security system and Wyze looks great but Abode can arm when the last person leave and disarm when the first person arrive via geofencing. Without that feature I can’t even consider the wyze security system.

I see the location based triggers are way to basic to accomplish this.

I have contacted Customer Support regarding adding a Geofencing Option and was told to send my idea to a specific address. I did this years ago as well - ā€œGreat idea, thanks for your inputā€. However what is interesting was that as soon as I questioned whether Wyze were Data Harvesting as I suspect they may be I was immediately cut off and the conversation was deleted. This way they did not have to lie but claim there was a service interuption. I would be very suspicious of this company. They are after all set up by ex Amazon employees - a company that analyses everything. So given that background be suspicious of what is being monitored and monetised by Wyze.

Please add functionality for app to detect GPS location and then update Notifications based on proximity to camera location.

I want to be able to drive back to my office and then the app detects I’m now in the vicinity and the app will disable motion detection notification, etc. We can add the other various team members to the account as well so the app will detect any device registered to the account and then will disable notifications when anyone is nearby.

Then when we leave and the app detects no one is near the camera(s), it turns back on notifications. This way we can avoid receiving a ton of superfluous notifications when we are in the office.

Go to ā€˜Rules’, ā€˜+’ and then ā€˜Location Trigger’.

They are piloting it at the moment.

However I am yet to see it actually work properly when I leave and enter my house. Sometimes they don’t come on and sometimes they don’t turn off. Plus I can’t see a way of registering other devices to it other than other downloading the app and having the same admin rights.

honestly, what would fix this is wifi based possibly. If wyze could add some way to detect your device, or in the app detect a ā€˜home’ wifi network you can set. When your wifi disconnects, do a thing (ie turn on motion detection) – I already do this with a custom script and ifttt in my router, which detects my device presence.

Geofencing for Wyze Home Monitoring system

To make the Wyze Home Monitoring system truly a smart system, I would love to see Geofencing added. Manually arming and disarming the alarm system on the app means that we forget to do so way too often.

Here’s how I envision it working (based on other systems I’ve used with geofencing):

  • Let’s say there are a number of family members living in the home.
  • When the LAST member leaves (based on everyone’s phone location), the system arms itself.
  • When the FIRST family member arrives home (based on their phone’s location) the system automatically disarms itself.
This is so simple and obvious I’m actually surprised the system isn’t already designed to do so.

Thanks for your consideration.

This is the feature preventing me from moving from Abode.
Wyze has more affordable sensors, better cameras, and the ability to have thermostat, locks, and home security in one app (vs the Nest and August apps I have to use now).
But if my alarm system isn’t on then it doesn’t work. And we forgot to arm our prior system alllll the time.

I am new to Wyze cameras, and have immediately run into this issue – there does not seem to be a way to setup geofence rules tied to multiple users – i.e. if both my wife and I are away then activate the camera detection. There are 100s of replies on this topic, Can anyone summarize the best solution. Thanks in advance.

Yes, location seems to work but still looking forward to a multiple user geofencing option.

This would increase our alarm set away by a good percentage. As stated earlier, if the alarm isn’t on it is ineffective for its main purpose.

Abode security user here. I also have Wyze cameras. I would love to move away from Abode. But concerned with the Wyze arming/disarming capabilities. Does Wyze have integrated Geofencing yet or you have to rely on IFTTT? I find IFTTT not very reliable and find it weird Wyze has not created their own geofencing.

Yep this is a huge feature, it’s extremely annoying for families to ā€œjuggleā€ turning cameras/notifications on/off when it could simply be done by adding family members with a shared geo-fencing. Not a big deal if you just use cameras for outdoors that you want on 24/7, or you’re single, but for a family having to constantly flip turn notifications on/off is frustrating and coordinate across the family is a hassle. Especially after having a system where it works well using the location of multiple family members. It’s one of my ā€œmust haveā€ features now with any cameras I consider buying.

THIS REQUEST HAS BEEN ASKED FOR FOUR YEARS… REALLY. FOUR YEARS. NOTHING.

Does anyone have thoughts how we could circumvent the lack of action and develop a ā€œIFTTTā€ alternative? Maybe we can as a group come up with an alternative. Our HM is only set by a timed rule or when we remember to set it. There is a geofence for the deadbolt. No idea how good it works; but the code is there on another piece of hardware. That sounds more complicated as the software has to actually trigger a servo and disengage a physical piece of hardware.
All we are seeking is software to move a virtual switch…
