What exactly do these settings do, and how much difference does it make? I have a Cam V4 in my backyard. Some string lights, an umbrella, and wind chimes tend to move around when it is windy. I’ve blocked those out using the Detection Zones, and this helps. But I’ve also lowered the detection sensitivity and wonder if that is necessary. Here are some pics.
I wouldn’t even begin to know how to quantify that for you or anyone else.
I think what you have with the settings is probably a good start, and my impression from reading other users’ comments is that working with Wyze Cams is often a trial-and-error process in order to strike an acceptable balance between too many and too few notifications. Only you can determine if you’re achieving your desired result.
Wyze also recently announced their NBD filter, which I think is supposed to require less tweaking in order to minimize notification overload, but that’s a premium feature that requires a top-tier subscription. Short of that, I think the standard practice is to adjust some settings (or a single setting at a time, if you want to reduce your variables), run your own tests, and see what happens. Over time, you might find that you’ll want to expand or contract your Detection Zone, for instance.
I also think that enabling Motion Tagging can be helpful for troubleshooting and tweaking your settings. Even if you don’t want the green boxes to appear in your event videos, this can provide a clue about what’s triggering the camera while you’re adjusting things. You can always turn it off again later.
