I get it. I think it happens all the time in meatspace, which is why @Earl.Automation and @peepeep mentioned [1] trying to give compliments for good service. I believe they’re trying to provide some balance.
I think it also happens all-too-frequently online (not just in the areas of products and services), where a vocal minority can hold sway over…take your pick. It seems to be a critical element of the so-called “outrage culture”.
The majority of users don’t even visit these forums. In addition, there’s nothing to substantiate that the majority of 3.0 users have any issues. Just a minority of users that happened to visit these forums.
That’s definitely my point. Forums are NOT a scientific measurement of the the feelings of the overall user base. Unless Wyze publicly releases numbers, we don’t even know the total amount of users, average amount of cameras per user, etc. etc. It can be surmised (I think) to put some weight to an uptick of forum use that is negative. But, it can also be suspect as something can get review bombed. There doesn’t seem to be a term for a flood of good reviews (Review Hugged?). Because happy people just use the product and go about their day.
“Show me the data” is where I live. Anecdotal observation is NOT the way to judge a situation.
I imagine you have this impression because the majority of Wyze app v3.0 users who actually take the time to post (perhaps more specifically, to kvetch) are apt to be the people who dislike the change. People who are indifferent or pleased with the change are likely to just roll with it and keep humming along, treating it like any other major product upgrade, and very few of those will likely take the time to visit a medium like this just to drop a note of thanks or give the Wyze developers some praise.
I believe that’s the point that @PanCamJeff and @Earl.Automation are making, and you’ve kind of helped to illustrate that point. (I’m not saying that you’re here to vent and complain. Quite the opposite. I’ve read posts where you’ve asked good questions and given advice. You’re sharing your observation of what you’ve read here, though, and that’s what’s making the point.)
Edit: Back to @PanCamJeff’s initial comment, the very nature of this community means that participants here are self-selecting: They choose to comment here (though their reasons or motivations for doing so may differ widely), which means that the opinions we’re likely to read here in no way approximate a random sample of Wyze users, which goes to @Earl.Automation’s comment about data. No legitimate and respectable polling organization would function this way (and here I’m thinking of something like political polls while not making a political argument), because the essence of the sample is too biased to provide anything near scientific validity.
I find it funny when someone joins 4 or 5 years earlier and just made their first post recently. At least you could post one good post of introduction instead of complaining 4 or 5 years later.
BTW It might seem that I was trying to school Earl in the OP but that wasn’t the case at all. I was excited to foreground his statement because it is straightforward and powerful. It may seem self-evident when fully considered but most haven’t done so, I’d say.
Same with my ‘Bizzaro Wyze Forum’ post to @habib. No schooling intended. It was a notion I was toying with for a new topic but thought it worked as a plug-in here.
I stand corrected and I acknowledge my naivety to assume that this forum is a true mirror of what’s happening in the Wyze universe. However. my observations were based solely to their forum
