I’m trying to setup a satellite router with a wired backhaul. Referencing other posts, I went through the setup without Ethernet connected. Then I plugged in the Ethernet between the root router and satellite router and cycled power on the satellite router. However, now the satellite router periodically disconnects and switches between wired and wireless backhaul. This in turn causes issues with connected devices. What step am I missing to get wired backhaul to work consistently? Alternatively, I also tried to reconfigure the satellite router as a root router and then enable bridge mode. However, it appears that the Wyze root router does not allow pings and thus fails the setup. Is there a setting to allow pings?
not sure how long you have been waiting, but I have found that it will stabilize.
When you setup the node, were you next to the Main router or in another room. The setup is similar to the ASUS in that you need to be next to the main router when setting it up. Once it has been setup, you can then relocate it and connect to Ethernet for Wired Backhaul
Yes, I was next to the main router for the initial setup. Over the course of 30-40 minutes, I saw it switch back and forth 3 or 4 times. How long would you expect it to take before stabilizing?
I left it alone as I did it late at night. Went to bed and it was fine.
but after that, I can restart my routers and everything come back quickly.
Can you connect to it and use the internet?
I can connect and use the internet in between the switches between wireless and wired backhaul. I’m also trying a different Ethernet cable in case I had a bad cable.
Could be an Ethernet switch issue as well.
I had a switch go bad and was experiencing weird issues.
I don’t have a switch at the moment so this a patch cable from root router to house Ethernet and patch cable from house Ethernet to satellite router.
@spamoni, I appreciate your quick replies! It currently seems better with a different patch cable from root router to house Ethernet. I’m going to let it sit for a while and see if that was the problem.
Sounds good.
Have a great evening
The backhaul has remained on “wired” after switching out the patch cable. Looks like that was the issue for me. I also noticed that the previous cable was only Cat 5 rather than 5e which could have contributed to my issues as well.
That is great news. Glad it all worked out for you.
