Manually Update My Firmware

So my Wyze OG camera was showing and stuck as being offline. I tried to reset the device but it was greyed out in the app. I hit up the chat support and their expert advice was to delete the device from my connected one and set up the camera again. The problem is that I forgot to update the firmware before I did so and received the message that there was one. Now I can’t update the firmware through the app until I can add the device successfully and I can’t add the device because its still using the old version.

According to Google you are supposed to be able to manually be able to download the file from the Wyze website directly and then upload to a micro sd card and then insert micro sd into your camera and update it that way. However according to the people at Wyze that is not possible either and is a false statement.

So basically I am on here hoping that someone else has ran into this issue and has a solution on how to fix it and can help me get access to the firmware file that I need (version 1.0.84) so that I can manually update it.

I also know that this is the issue as I tested this theory by doing the same thing with my other OG, and not only is the setup process slightly different now but there are no issues with the setup process or this camera. It works just as it should.

To whomever reads this, if you can help me at all, I would sincerely appreciate it.

By the way I have an android phone Samsung Galaxy Note 20 UltraG just in case that is important as well

Welcome to the Forum, @maxwell0024!

In your situation, I think my next steps would probably be to factory reset and then try to add it in the app. If you can get it added by doing that, then I’d take a look at the firmware update troubleshooting article.

I don’t know what the primary source of your Google information is, but I believe that Wyze Support is correct and that Cam OG models can’t be flashed with firmware in the same manner as other Wyze Cam have been. If you look at Cam OG’s section of the Release Notes & Firmware page, you don’t see links for downloadable firmware files like you do for some other cameras.

Officially, OG is not supported to manually flash the firmware, but it is possible. If you contact the right Wyze engineer then they can send you a firmware to manually flash based on the posts below:

I was going to mention it but not sure how to still get one. Maybe someone who received the 1.0.83 beta can post it and that will at least get OP up and running, then it will update to 1.0.84. I never got the file I don’t think, they just pushed it to my cam.

That particular topic with the 1.0.83 firmware push occurred to me, as well, but it seems like a bit of a red herring in this case with @maxwell0024 not having the camera added back into the app yet. I didn’t want to add confusion because that seems like a bit of an edge case where a special firmware version was delivered to some users in an effort to pinpoint a specific issue and assist with troubleshooting, whereas in this case I think the best course might be to just do a factory reset, add the camera to the user’s account (using whatever firmware version is already on the camera), and then attempt the usual manner OTA firmware update after the camera has been added (assuming it’s possible to do so).

I appreciate your contributing for the sake of completeness, though, especially since @maxwell0024 apparently found inaccurate information in a Web search. Clearly firmware for this camera can be updated outside the typical user-initiated process in the app. I just don’t know how useful that is in this particular case.

1.0.83 was also available as a file download and installable via SD card, before they realized they could push it based on MAC address.

To everyone that read this an offered solutions I do sincerely appreciate it. I ended up solving the problem though. Turns out while I was correct my firmware was not updated on the camera as I can said previously, the problem was actually in my Xfinity app and I had to go into the settings and unpause my device from being able to access the network. Soon as I did that both cameras are now back to full functioning as they should. It was still slightly different setups though.

Now I just need someone to explain to me how I can delete a post on here as I am receiving countless emails still.

Just unsubscribe from this topic. The easy way is to hit the button with the near the bottom of the topic. Right now it probably says  Watching because you created the topic. You can select a different option based on how you might prefer to be notified.

I’m glad you got it solved! Thanks for taking the time to post an update!
