When you push the video doorbell button it triggers a push notification.
UI state 1 - When you open that push notification it launches the wyze app and takes you to a UI view that shows a live video feed + microphone icon + green circle with phone handset inside it.
UI state 2 - If you touch the green circle with phone handset inside it then it switches to a UI view that shows a live video feed + microphone icon + red circle with phone handset inside it.
UI state 3 - If you touch the red circle with phone handset inside it then it switches to a UI view that shows a live video feed + speaker icon + microphone icon and text box saying “live feed”.
Can folks share some insights on what the difference is between state 1 and 2 given it appears i can see and hear what is going on at the video doorbell in both those states. Likewise, any difference between optional microphone enabled state that is presumably intended to allow me to speak freely to person at the door, albeit with very distorted almost undiscernible quality I the case of app on android vs app on iOS device.
Likewise, what’s the expected difference between state 2 and state 3 given they both appear to provide ability to see and hear what is going on at the video doorbell in both those states and with optional microphone enabled state that is presumably intended to allow me to speak freely to person at the door.
While it isn’t a “Phone Call” like the VOIP calling your phone, you can think of it in the same manner.
State #1 is informing you there is someone at the door waiting for you to answer it. You can choose to press the green button, which then connects the 2 way audio and you can converse with the button pusher. Or, if you don’t want to answer, but would rather send a pre-recorded message, click the white 5 bar icon in the lower right and select a message to be read to the button pusher.
State #2 is after you have answered the doorbell and you are now in 2 way live audio with the button pusher. Push the red phone button to hang up and cut the 2 way audio. You can also mute your mic on the left or send a pre recorded message on the right.
State #3 is the default live stream that you get without any button push or after you hang up on a button push conversation. You have the option to enable\disable the doorbell mic (left) or your device mic (right). These are the live stream 2 way audio.
State 3 gives you the added function of disabling the doorbell mic that you do not have in state 2. It also gives you some additional settings options and use of the pre-recorded responses and taking photo snapshots or recording video, as well as a full screen view.
Also, I see that your video quality is currently streaming in SD (upper right of Live Stream). If you click that you will get options for a much higher resolution quality to your video feed by selecting HD.
However, if you have slow WiFi, this may slow your load time and stream lag. You will have to test it to see what works best for you.
Thanks for the detailed and thorough response. Makes sense mostly.
What doesn’t make sense, to me, is in state 1 if that is the unanswered doorbell state, where you are just checking out the video feed, then why have a microphone icon? Given the expectation is that i click the green circle with phone handset if i want to transition to answering the doorbell and speaking to person.
What also doesn’t make sense, to me, is when i transition from state 1 to sate 2, i.e. answer the doorbell ring event, why doesn’t it automatically have the microphone enabled. I have to manually enable it which seems non-intuitive if my goal when transitioning to that state was not only to hear but also speak with whoever is at the door.
Thanks for calling that out, the HD vs SD video feed option. I left it on SD because the quality seemed good enough for me in that state when viewed on a phone or tablet sized screen so i figured why burden the device and network with transmitting HD video feed.
That said if wyze were to provide me with a windows/macOS app offering, so i could view doorbell events and answer doorbell rings while working at my desktop large display where i rarely have phone or tablet sitting nearby, then in that case i’d expect HD video feed quality would be preferred.
Thanks for the details on android emulators others are using. Was able to get wyze app running on windows 11 using the wsa [ windows subsystem for android ] with magisk and mindthegapps enabled google play store support. Likewise on macos monterey with arm based silicon using support for iOS apps.
