Been an owner for many years…have V1,2, pan and outdoor cameras. I am invested. Over the last year have had constant problems with the lack of recording sound and motion events… cams are always up to date…unplug…reboot…blah blah… now the app is not showing new events until it feels like it. Fortunately nothing has happened during those blackouts. I should not have to constantly do the things for these to record. I get power outages and such resetting. I recently purchased a Blink device I have had ZERO issues. Does exactly what it is supposed to do.
Very good.
I finally saw a v1 in a doctor’s office today. First time ever. I started at v2 and got to v3 and v4 later.
so you have no issues with recording sound or motion?
I don’t use sound, just motion. I have 8 cams. Most sit on a window sill looking out into my front and back yards. I do have sound on in the garage, now that I think of. The garage cam records the grunt of the door opening.
Motion is smooth. I use a micro SD card without any subscriptions.
The V3s have much better night vision without using the IR lights. The v4 is overkill for me.
So the brand new blink device with newer technology and hardware performs better than the old end of life Wyze cams?
Grab a new Wyze cam, you’ll toss those blinks in the garbage, as my neighbors have after having all the same complaints you’re having about the Wyze with their blinks (along with poor image quality and terrible night images, and short wifi range).
After some cars got broken into around here, we collected footage, my Wyze OGs and Pan v3s picked up better quality images from 2 houses down than the blink mounted right on the house the car was parked in front of did (and it didn’t even start recording until after they shut the door of the car). The blink on the house next door to theirs didn’t even detect the event when their car got hit next.
The only videos and stills the police bothered to take were mine.
Super helpful dave… thanks for the advice. I have several versions of the cam running. It took 12 hours to refresh my events from last night. Not helpful at all… You should not have to constantly reboot the cameras to records events - sound or motion. As others have stated the App is not getting any better.
I haven’t had any issues like that, maybe the older cams are starting to die out on you, or maybe there are wifi signal strength issues? After all the comments I saw about the new app I was worried, but other than a couple minor glitches which I’m assuming will get worked out in upcoming releases, it has been working fine for me. But again I’m using newer cams (OG, OG Telephoto, and Panv3).
@cgraburn - Can you post a picture of your internet speeds (speedtest.net) and your router/wifi make and model?
Wyze cameras can hang up but what you are describing is a network issue. I have 15 cameras, including a Pan v1… and they all work great. Including events and playback.
If @cgraburn’s router shows RSSI or some sort of signal strength measurement for the cams that would be useful too. That is only RX strength but should be a good indication. Anything below -70 starts to get a bit spotty in my experience, but I also have a lot of 2.4ghz congestion around here, for others it may work to -75 or -80.
Everything is working great for our needs, Have the latest version as of today.
Funny enough…looks like the app dumped 2 weeks of sound events from all cameras over night…Will check into speeds and such this evening. Really wasn’t having much of an issue prior to the update.
