It looks like im returning my cams and looking elsewhere

So, I am really deterred to keep the v3 pan cams I just bought today. No matter what I did I couldn’t get ANY of the 3 cams to connect, It glitches out and seems to connect and show snapshots of movements but no live feed. I have a Wi-Fi extender. I tried the “remedies”. I am absolutely disappointed to see that so many people are having these issues. My house was broken into 2 days ago. I am absolutely terrified of it happening again and buying cameras just for them to not work is really not ok. Why do I see the “techs” give everyone the run around? Can we get some clear answers? Can we get some fixes?

Sorry this was your first experience with Wyze. There seems to be an increase in issues.

Can I recommend SimplySafe as an immediate or interim solution? It appears security is your main concern.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Wyze quality, customer service, and tech support has taken a massive nosedive recently.

If your main focus is security, you should probably look elsewhere and consider an alarm. The previous poster recommended Simplisafe. I don’t have any experience with them but they are a big company and worth checking out.

I would also add Ring to your list. I have one of their alarm systems, a doorbell, several cameras, floodlights, spotlights, etc… . They’ve been very solid for me.

If you’re just looking for cameras, check out Tapo made by TP-Link. I’ve been replacing all my Wyze cams with Tapos and so far so good. If your wifi is not very good, the Tapos may not work for you as I’ve noticed that their wifi connectivity isn’t as good as Wyze but it’s worth checking them out and maybe ordering just one to see how it goes.

Wonder if they’re better with a Tp-link router? Power user (former Maven) @slabslayer swore by the Wyze Pro mesh router as a foundation for Wyze cam connectivity.

Interesting. I have no problems with my provider’s router.

May I know how is the Alexa / Google integration with Tapo? I know that you can view your cameras through Alexa, but what about like Person / Vehicle detection announcement through Alexa? One gripe I have with Wyze is their vehicle detection is not announced through Alexa only Person detection is.

Also, how is the vehicle detection? For Wyze if you have a parked car on your driveway, then vehicle detection will always notify you no matter what. The only remedy is either to disable the vehicle detection in smart detection or ignore notification due to how Wyze’s AI detection system work.

And I have a Tp-link two-node Deco Mesh that’s dialed-in and happy enough (took a while and they made good firmware/software improvements over three or four years.) :man_shrugging:

I also have a two-node x68 TP-link router and like it but I keep my cams on a separate network from TV and PC. Maybe I can move them over, but they work fine where they are.

Love wifi 6 wpa 3 for my cell phone. Cellphone supports 6e, but I can wait.

Separate network on the same router, like 2.4Ghz Guest and 5Ghz Main?

I can wait also. I am pretty good at waiting.

Gratuitous gag:

Some people think that sitting on a Deco Mesh disc for an hour a day helps shrink an inflamed prostate. They’re wrong, I expect, but they still think it.

I have a TP-Link AX5000 mesh system. I haven’t had any real issues with the Tapos, just noticed that their reported signal strength is a little weaker than the Wyze cams. The one with the weakest signal is mounted outside so that may have something to do with it.

This weekend I’m going to try replacing the Wyze cam watching my driveway which is also mounted outside and is the one that’s farthest from one of the access points and also goes through the most walls and windows. That’s the only one that concerns me. Hopefully the Tapo will work. If it does, I’ll be able fully decommission all of my Wyze cams whenever I feel like it. If not, my Cam Plus Unlimited is paid through the end of this year so I’ll have plenty of time to figure out an alternative.

But even with the camera with the weakest signal currently, I can still connect to it from outside my network and view clips from the SD card without any issues. Just once in a while I notice that its RSSI drops to almost -70 where it’s usually between -57 and -60. A reboot from the app will usually restore it to a stronger signal.

Interesting, GMan, good to know.

Unfortunately I don’t know because I don’t use Alexa or Google Home. I already have enough devices listening in without my knowledge, last thing I need is to deliberately install a wiretap like Alexa! :astonished:

Provider Router 2.4GHz Cams, nothing on 5GHz.
Provider Guest Disabled.

X68 2.4Ghz - Smart speaker. 5Ghz - TV, PC, Laptop and other “important items”.
X68 Guest Disabled
X68 IoT Disabled. Guess I could use the Iot network for cams
