Put the base outside for better receptionš
Actually a lot of surveillance camera systems use network cables (Cat-x) outside. Most use PoE to power the cameras, so they can record continuously and often do full PTZ. Personally, I think if a cameras system is going to be powered full time by a wire, it only makes sense to power it via PoE and get the benefit of the wired network connection along with the power.
The battery powered cameras Iāve seen have base stations that have to be wired to the home network and are not outdoor rated. Thatās fairly common. The new Arlo Essential camera doesnāt require a base station, but it isnāt available yet to say how well it works.
I agree. When they first released info about WCO I said ā I hope this is not another Blink camera.ā Well, it is a Blink with worse battery life but you get ātravel modeā. I wouldnāt use travel mode. I have a GoPro.
Can the base station also connect to a Wyze Cam V2 or Wyze Cam Pan? Would be nice to be able to remove some wifi traffic from my existing router but not expecting this to be the case, just curious.
Also, I am a bit shocked that this appears to be a battery only camera. They said again and again early on that it will be both plug in or battery. Most of us that bought Wyze Cam V1/V2s and the Pan and put them outside already have existing AC wiring infrastructure to the camera that a lot of us were hoping to reuse that same wiring for a better suited outdoor model. I do not get it, hopefully I am wrong and I know that Wyze will come out with something else eventually but I am done with waiting. Wyze seems to be targeting the mobile/rental market where people do not want to mess with wiring or deal with answering to an apartment management company or a landlord when installing wiring. This is a huge wonderful market to tap into but for homeowners that stay put in one place for many years and would rather not mess with the maintenance of batteries; there needs to be more options.
A good idea, but no, not that I have ever heard.
No, the base only connects to WCO
Yeah you are right, at least the Blink has easy to replace typical batteries. I do not want a camera that I have to throw away after the batteries fail. That is not only wasteful but a bad investment. I would be interested in knowing if the charging cable can be plugged in and attached to the camera all the time. Better yet, with some DIY, I wonder if you could open the camera up and remove the batteries and then just keep the charging cable attached and plugged into the Wyze Outdoor Cam all the time. This would eliminate the worry of frying/overcharging the batteries while keeping the camera powered all of the time as long as there is AC power.
Iād say the odds are good. Iāve seen a photo of the battery pack somewhere in this forum and it just unplugs, so easy to remove once you get inside the cam. ![]()
Yeah I have seen those pics too. I think the secret lies in how they designed power to be handled via the circuit board. Only way to know is to try it. I am sure many people will discuss this once people start actually receiving their Wyze Outdoor Cams. I have decided to wait and see how this develops before buying one but I will not wait for another model to come out again. Waited over 1.5 years for this, not doing that again.
Cant wait for August!
Are they ready to be shipped out?
Some time in August.
So āItās Finally Hereā isnāt really the case.
My apologies if itās been stated⦠Does anyone know the power requirements of the base station? Is it 12V DC?
Update: Nevermind. In the setup guide graphic it looks to be 12V DC, 1.0A.
I agree with joel1247, I would not use travel mode either. I just do not see a lot of people wanting to take their camera(s) with them on a vacation or trip away from home and keep up with them. Travel mode is a cool unique concept for Wyze to do something that no one else has done (that I know of). But I do not see people wanting or using this feature mainstream except for a small percentage of people.
Funny, I actually do take two Arlo wireless cameras and a travel base with me on an extended stay I take every year, I all depends on your situation.
Not at all. Blink cameras are pretty basic.
The wyze outdoor will have:
- Ability to watch live video without needing to press ādo you want to continueā every 30 seconds on the blink xt2
- Ability to view the live stream whilst a motion clip is being recorded (donāt know if they ever updated that as when I had my xt you had to wait until the recording finished)
- Full duplex audio vs walkie talkie style half duplex.
- Better video quality assuming the outdoor is similar to the V2 (blink cameras arenāt that great)
- Better night vision (Blink has 1 IR?)
- Travel mode
- Ability to record continuously for a period with schedules.
- Sd storage in the base station for added security and another option vs cloud recording. Or SD card slot in the camera as well.
- Better mount
- Cheaper
I am sure there are a lot more pros. Canāt think of any significant advantages of the blink xt2 other than the removable batteries. I kind of like the way the blink xts look better but not a big deal.
Every time When I read the Title of this thread
āItās Finally Hereā
My mind interpreted as āItzs Finally Here but Not Here.ā
I know the resolution is 1080p but what will be the ābitrateā for these outdoor cameras? I hope it will be a lot better than the ones for Wyze indoor cameras.
Just a thought.
I had defended complaints of a battery powered only outdoor cam based on comments by WyzeDongsheng in the Outdoor Cam thread. I kept telling people, āyou will be able to plug it inā. Silly me.
Yes, it was 18 months before the release but WYZE never said anything different.
I totally forgot about that! Why did Wyze not keep it as battery and plugin? This would have been the best camera to support both!
