Issues trying to flash firmware for Wyze Cam v1

I am trying to flash the firmware on Wyze Cam v1. But the instructions aren’t written well:

Flash Firmware for Wyze Cam v1

  1. Wyze Cam v1 firmware files can be found on the Release Notes page.

  2. Download the specific version of firmware from the Release Notes, For Windows 10 right-click in the folder and select extract all. For Mac: just drag and drop folder, and put it on the root directory of your microSD card and rename it to FIRMWARE_660R_F.BIN.
Downloaded the file onto the microSD. Extracted the files right to the root of the microSD Do I need to rename it? Or is that for Mac only? This could have been worded better or broken apart.

  3. Power off your camera and insert your MicroSD card.
    Done

  4. Hold the setup button, plug in your USB cable, and keep holding the setup button for 12-15 seconds, then release the button.
The light on the back stays solid yellow After 15 seconds, the light goes out. I release the button then get “Ready to Connect”

  5. Wait for 3-4 minutes. The camera will reboot and change light status during this time.
I wait the 3-4 minutes and it just keeps saying “Ready to Connect” No light in the back

  6. After it is done, the camera light should be flashing yellow (ready to set up).
    No flashing nothin’

  7. Re-setup your device as a new device.
I do and it still shows the old firmware version. What am I missing?

I know the instructions on step 2 are not written well. Yes you do need to rename it on both Mac and Windows.

Thanks @WyzeJasonJ.

Ok. Looks like I got to step 6. The light is just flashing. Do I have to unplug it and plug it back in while holding the setup button? There was no “Ready to Connect” or “QR code scanned.”

I got it. Just hit the setup button once and was able to re-enable it with the new firmware. However, Do I need to keep those files on there or can I delete them?

On the SD card? Once the firmware flash takes you can take the card out and delete the files on there because the needed files are on the camera now.

Thank you! I am all good to go!
