Is It Even Worth Buying Wyze Cameras Any More?

Interesting observations but I don’t think they’ve overextended themselves. (At least not yet).

I have only a limited basis for this assessment but I’ll share. I also don’t know what the “90 degree” issue is so I can’t speak to that.

My experience with Arlo tech support and Wyze tech support was night and day. Arlo for Android had a bug that caused an Android service to start and never close. I complained, complained and complained and finally after I literally debugged the issue and pointed to the exact service a month later they quietly fixed it – even though the issue had been in forums for 2 years before my complaint came along. That is poor customer service, poor testing, poor development cycle. It showed me they just didn’t care.

Wyze has some issues, especially when it comes to connecting up to the network that some good software testing would detect and fix but they’ve missed it – nevertheless, I could actually chat with their tech support and get an offer to send me a new cam. Is that perfect? Definitely not. However, it speaks to an attitude that I find value in.

Development, especially as you become a much larger company with many more products to support in the Wyze app, is going to be challenging but looking at the Wyze App changelog there seems to be incremental improvements to camera interactions. That is a good sign.

Your warning is prescient. This is a critical time for Wyze, will they be able to maintain the quality experience of (arguably) their flagship product while expanding their product line? That is hard and while I disagree with your current conclusion I find your concern worthy. Hopefully the executive-level Wyze-team keep their eye on the quality-ball, across the product offering. None of us wants to see Wyze bankrupt.

Wyze has way too many products out or under development at this time to focus their team on improving their flagship cameras. I’ve waited a long time for them to simply get their cameras to initiate a DIFFERENT notification sound from ANY iPHONE, besides the common ones I get on my iPhone every day. Literally, hundreds have complained here to no avail. Wyze says the fix is “under development”- but even that announcement was a long time ago. Nope, I’m sticking with my promise to not buy another of their products until they fix this major flaw.
Now to figure out how to keep spider webs off my driveway cam, since coating the housing with liquid bug killer didn’t work for long. Got over 100 notifications just last night!

How many 10’s of thousands of unique customers might Wyze have? And out of those how many, like myself, use Android. With limited R&D money, which could be spent on other improvements, how many really want to drop other improvements for Iphone notification sounds?

As you as admit, those two very different scenarios are not a lot to measure by. Offering you a replacement is the easiest form of customer support. Getting a company to actively debug and fix code is much harder. There are dozens of complaints here that are never (and may never be) addressed. One that comes to mind is excessive built in DNS queries.

For the money, Wyze does have terrific support, regular updates, and a good forum. (Note I’ve never had to try their customer support.)

They have everyone fooled completely! Wyze does not design, nor make its products. They are simply a reseller/rebrander of the Chinese company Xiaomi. The cameras are rebranded Xiaomi Xiaofang line of IP cameras. They have zero R&D budget because they completely rebadged Xiaomi Xiaofang as Wyze Cams. You do not need a large R&D budget to change the name from Xiaomi to Wyze. The reason they do not fix bugs that their customers report is because they cannot. They have to wait for Xiaomi to do it for them. Now you see why they avoid the forums. See why it takes them forever to fix something if they ever do? See why they do not try to give really good customer support? They cannot! It is clear that they have little to no control over fixing “Wyze” cameras/products. Wyze is no more a technology company than my dog is. Do a Google search for Xiaomi Xiaofang. You will notice something weird. All the cameras and products look very familiar. Here is one video for you to look at. Looks familiar? I am most likely going to be banned and this message deleted. So pass this information along…

They make no secret about where much the hardware for their products comes from. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m much more interested in how they tie it all together in software, automation integrations, etc.

Yeah yeah, very old news as it applies to V1, V2, and Pan Cam. Perhaps not so much all the other products?

There are lots of threads that discuss this and I’ve never noticed anything deleted.
