My WYZE app has had local network access for four years
So if you have to go back and turn it on after loading iOS 18 it will take you about 4 seconds. Maybe you should complain to Apple, it’s their security/operating system. I have iOS 17.7 and have not had to change anything.
Why didn’t Apple build into the OS to prompt you that “Wyze app is attempting to access the local network - grant or deny?”. They added this new security “feature”, not Wyze.
It doesn’t impact the cameras ability to be on 24x7 they’re still able to reach the cloud to send recorded clips and record to the SD card, it just impacts your ability to view the live stream from the local network until you either change that setting, or turn off wifi/leave home.
This will affect any app that needs local network access (Sonos comes to mind, various smart TV apps, etc).
Some iOS 18 users trying to use the YouTube app and home automation apps complaining about the same thing today after updating. I wonder if they all participated in beta 18.
Yeah if you use Youtube to “cast” to a TV or other device, that won’t work, same with chromecast and similar, or really anything that streams video or audio on your local network.
What I’d be really interested to see is if Apple built in an exception/bypass for AppleTV. Then the conspiracies of the reason behind this “new feature” can begin.
