I just got mine as well!
Does anyone know how to remove the solar panel cover without breaking it? I want to try to tuck all the excess cables into it.
Mount it in a location and position that is inconvenient for them to access it (not within arms reach of the public sidewalk), and have a second camera that has the birdhouse in view of it. If itâs not a fast snatch and grab, theyâre often hesitant to do so. If they believe another camera will catch them doing it on video, they are also hesitant to do so. So, if you have a floodlight camera or another camera with a spotlight, you can have it turn on at night as a deterrent to make sure people know they are being recorded from a different camera.
They also are unlikely to know how easy it is to remove the camera. You should have it secured (screwed into) the birdhouse, and have the birdhouse secured to something. This will make most too concerned to figure out how they are supposed to quickly remove it and run off with it. Also, many may not even realize there is a camera in the birdhouse. A lot of thieves will not pay it much attention and wonât focus on it long enough to decide they want to steal the camera, especially when they donât know how it secured. They are more likely to have tunnelvision on checking car doors, etc like they are used to, not looking for lawn ornaments and stuff they arenât used to having something in them.
In addition, a lot of smart cameras are starting to become pointless to steal, especially now that âsecure bootâ is becoming common. Secure boot allows companies to remotely brick a device that is stolen. Or a company banning the device from their servers. This makes it pointless to steal them.
I donât think Wyze has implemented such protections/options yet, but they have been implementing secure boot on their devices lately, so itâs possible they could implement this.
Squirrels donât steal cameras but they do try to put them out of commission. Be prepared for Squirrel selfies.
Here is a mesmerized Squirrel viewing an old WCO.
I am pretty sure Wyzeâs next step is to start charging the birds a subscription fee.
Just carefully pull the latches on the sides outward and it will pop back open. I just tried it. Just be gentle just in case
Thanks! That worked.
I have a Bird Buddy video bird feeder. It was an expensive gift. Software and hardware work well but itâs hard to refill.
How does this one refill?
Can it ID bird species?
Pull the top off. Dump a bunch of bird seed.
Thatâs what I did at least. Subscription doesnât ID birds yet. We are working on that.
Yeah, itâs pretty simple, the top has a latch, you just pull the latch open and the top folds down to let you dump in more bird feed. It takes all of 1-2 seconds to open it up. Really smooth IMO.
Nahhh thatâs not a hummingbird but if they could make a feeder specifically for hummingbirds I would buy one.
I put two Hummingbird feeders out and a cam aimed at each of them.
Sounds easy to fill.
The Bird Buddy makes a lot of mistakes in ID-ing birds and is an absolute mess to fill. The camera takes decent photos and video.
Squirrels always seem to be moving in stop action style, striking Vogue poses before going about their business.
Looks like the distance at the eye is in focus.
Excited to see an affordable option compared to the ridiculous other bid feeders options that are out there. However, I am a little underwhelmed with the design. Looks kinda toyish and the camera looks like something that was just bolted on. Hopeful for a more elegant feeder in the future.
We hung the camera as a standalone, using the monocle, and I donât see any difference in the focus or bringing the zoom in closer.
Also having a very difficult time figuring out a correct distance to get clear video, the hummingbirds and the feeder stay completely out of focus. Anyone figure out what the sweet spot is?
How close is the cam to the feeder?
