I have been seeing end to end events as long as 5 minutes with no cool down period. I do not worry about it because the events are on the cloud. When I do download the record from uSD card I post some long blocks as Cat TV. For those fans, 2 to 4 hours of bird activity is desirable.,
Itâs what comes after that 5-minute cloud recording. I have Cam Plus Ultimate and, on some cameras, âContinuousâ SD recording. Reviewing the SD card recording after a few of those 5-minute cloud ones, I find that there are events recorded on the SD card that are neither flagged nor recorded on the cloud.
I have found that to be what happens with mine. I have tried to go back and find a certain spot that something happened and it was nowhere to be found. And many of the ones on the cloud with my newer cams only show so many seconds worth and wonât show just before those seconds on the card.
I thought about getting that snap on lens, but it doesnât! Look that clear to me. For years, Iâve been opening and refocusing the Wyze lens to up close for my feeders and inside my birdhouse. I thought the macro lens would be easier, but it seems to
have to narrow of a focus point. Hereâs a sample of the V3 in my birdhouse for comparison. Notice the walls are sharp up close and also in back where the birds are.
For whatever itâs worth, that might depend upon the dimensions of your birdhouse or other target. Although the Close-up Lensâs product page doesnât explicitly mention the distance, I asked the AI bot on the page a question and received this as part of the answer:
What is the focal length for Close-up Lens?
The Wyze Cam Close-up Lens is designed as a macro lens that adjusts your Wyze Camâs focus to capture sharp, detailed close-up shots of small subjects like wildlife and pets. While the exact focal length in millimeters isnât specified, this lens focuses within a close range of about 4 to 8 inches from the subject, perfect for capturing those tiny moments in breathtaking clarity.
That might help guide any future decisions if youâd rather not void your camerasâ warranties or just want to save yourself some time and not hassle with the innards, or it might be useful for others to know.
If I remember correctly, the birdhouse camera is about 8 inches. My bird feeder however is only about 7 inches from the lens to the furthest point on the perch, but the birds are sharp and clear from the perch to the seed tray which is only a few inches. My feeder isnât the Wyze one, but itâs a similar style that I got before Wyze had theirs.
So far, most of the videos Iâve seen posted with the Wyze macro lens donât have nearly the sharpness or depth of field as a refocused lens.
Thatâs cool, and I appreciate the input.
I also like whatâs described in My hummingbirds are back, because @lmester appears to get great results with that solution.
Yes, I remember that one with the reading glasses, pretty cool. I was doing the lens focus adjustments since V2 cameras and itâs not too hard. The nice thing is that you can custom focus the camera for the exact distance you need or want. I usually set a book or something with fine writing on it at the exact distance I need and then turn the lens while itâs live streaming until it as sharp as I can get it.
When I get back home I want to try using a reading glasses lens on one of the cams.
my feeder is too far away and there is no way I can bring it closer . I put the camera on a shelf which I screwed to the outside of the house - I donât want to put the camera right on the feeder that would be the distance that Wyze has in mind for the macro lens - not going to happen ! I wish they woul design a lens that has more range.
The lenses are standard M12 I believe. There have been people that have replaced the lenses with telephoto or even manual zoom. I did it a while back on a V2 when experimenting with wide angle. You can probably search the forum for some old posts.
