I have both the V1 and V2 cams. Both camera versions have very poor audio playback. I have two Samsung cameras, which have superior audio quality playback. The playback detection between my Wyze cam and the Samsung cam is night and day. Both do well in sound detection but the playback of the Wyze cam is horrible. I would like to suggest improvements to the microphone or software.
Sorry to hear about this trouble! I’ll definitely share your feedback with the team. Could you please message me with an example video so that I can describe it to the team?
Same here. A conversation spoken 5 feet away from the camera is impossible to understand. Had it with both v1 and my v2. All other sounds are very muffled.
Have there been any results for this? The pan cam is my first and the 2 way audio is awful. The person on the phone can hear fine but the person at the camera can’t understand anything.
I agree with this one. Not just the microphone, but the speaker as well. It’s next to impossible to carry on a conversation through the camera. when I’m talking with someone at my front door, I have to repeat myself a lot to get the message across.
Love Wyze Cams… thanx for all you do!!!
It would be good if we could get a volume control to adjust the mic and speaker volume. I have my camera in a hallway that’s hollow and would love to turn down the volume on the mic.
I agree
I agree with the audio quality comment. My view is that this is an audio encoding codec or bitrate. Single channel, high quality audio can be had for 64Kbps with AAC. I’ve done the bitrate analysis for this camera on another post and providing it can be implemented in software should be done. As long as it is not a hardware encoder limitation, I believe it’s low hanging fruit.
I agree, the audio from Wyze is really sup-par with my other Samsung and Flir cameras. They pick up conversations from other rooms while Wyze maybe catches bits and pieces from the room it’s in.
And the consistent 10 second dropouts are maddening. They always happen at the most critical part of the conversation, it seems.i will not buy any further products until I see this is resolved in these forums. And please don’t ask for a sample, run your own test, like should have been done during development and testing, before this product was ever released to the public.
Hi Richard,
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Have you filed a support ticket?
Here’s the connectivity troubleshooting guide:
https://support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012903431-Connectivity-issues
If that doesn’t solve it, keep in mind that this is primarily a user-to-user forum. If you don’t get help here from the community, file a support request including log files. That will ensure that the logs are captured. You might want to submit the ticket right away because there’s somewhat of a backlog. You can always let them know it’s already resolved when they contact you.
After the very latest firmware update March 3rd 2019 audio recording on the camera is almost useless. It was very bad before but now I cannot get an event recording from sound at all. I stood one foot from the camera and yelled at it, I could barely hear myself from my phone. This is not acceptable for a camera that otherwise seems to be very good.
I had the opposite effect. I upgraded the app and the cameras. Now the audio is back to normal.
I just reread your post. My live view has almost usable audio quality. But during playback it is so bad, it is useless, noisy and garbled.
This should have been picked up during validation.
Wyze should allow rtsp or other protocols so we can record our own usable footage, as I seriously doubt they can fix it, been almost 2 years with this defect and plenty of complaints.
I agree. It is very discouraging to find that you caught an important conversation, only to find that you can’t understand what is being said.
We are absolutely agree, to difficult to recognize anything from conversation…
I found that the audio was great on the first two Wyze Cam v2’s I purchased. Then I purchased two more and found the audio was completely muffled. Luckily I had the ‘good’ experience with the first two cameras before. I contacted Wyze tech support and got the two ‘muffled’ cams replaced and the new one’s were as good as the first. So, it makes me think that there may be a quality control issue if these features can be so different from camera to camera?
I was really interested in buying a couple of cameras but I now am having serious reservations due to the ongoing audio issue. This is a matter of serious concern because I am also going to suggest a new product that has both security and non security applications, namely a high quality outdoor microphone (with no camera). For those who hate that shut in feeling you get when your windows are closed for either summer or winter and LOVE to hear the sounds of nature, this would sell quite nicely. On the security front, being able to hear what’s going on in your neighborhood, especially if it’s out of camera range, would be a huge advantage. An example is the ongoing thefts of catalytic converters that seems to be happening everywhere. Having a speaker in your bedroom so you can hear the sounds of tools being used to commit this crime, or the sound of glass breaking, or any of the other telltale sounds that ordinarily shouldn’t be heard would be great, especially if multiple neighbors had a system they could link together for greater range and more ears on the job. BUT, if Wyze can’t even get the mic’s and speakers to work on their core product line, camera’s, well I’ll be checking out the competition on this point. I can’t see a darned thing when I’m asleep, but due to past life experiences, I usually wake up when any “wrong” sound makes it’s way to my ears.
I have 1 V2 and 2 Pan.
I Can’t understand people talking 3 m from the camera…
does someone work on a solution?
THX
I agree for improvement in 2-way sound.
