I'm done with the cams

I’ve given up with these things. They are never connecting to the app anymore. I constantly get those 3 green waving dots and they take forever to connect. Trying to ‘rewind’ to view an event takes even longer to view. When formatting, the app never tells me the disc was formatted. I need to close the app and reopen to know if it happened. The only reliable formatter is the OG cams but what good is it when attempting view an ever and rewinding that circle just spins and spins just to go back 30 seconds. I could have gotten into my Delorean and went back a minute by the time the video clip starts. And this is on several phones, so it’s not just one. I have a good wifi connection, so that’s not the problem. So, the cameras will go into the dustbin of history. Except the V3 cam that I never updated. It still plays a 12 second clip and runs like a top, most of the time. I’ve purchased several Tapos and they work like a charm. And no subscription needed unless you want cloud storage.
However, I will keep the wyze plugs and thermostats cause they work most of the time. Cameras/floodlights will be no more as soon as the new Tapos get here.

I dumped WYZE last year, I had over 90 devices in Cameras, plugs and sensors in the end. I’ve been very happy post WYZE.
I adopted two Brands. - All without any subscriptions.
Cameras:
REOLINK cameras with HOME HUB PRO for all outdoor applications.
TAPO camera for Indoor Applications.
Besides the superior IP65 rated cameras, REOLINK has a desktop app you can use to view all your cameras. That’s why I use reolink for outdoor.

Plugs:
Kasa. I’ve been VERY happy with Kasa plugs over WYZE. The best part is, you can on/off the plug using the side switch without the app. Wyze doesn’t have that.
Kasa also has wall switches, including 3 way switches.
REOLINK door cam kicks ass over WYZE. Person detection free.
I replaced WYZE sense hub with Tapo for all my door and motion sensors.
I have GOVEE for Temp and water leaks, but I just purchased some Tapo sensors to compare them.

I have not experienced any “outages” with the other brands, like I did with WYZE.

Good Luck.

Another vote for Reolink here too

I seem to be having connection issues more and more too. I open the app and several cameras just won’t load. I end up having to close the app and open it up again, sometimes several times, to view the camera that gave me a notification and by that time what caused the motion is long gone. My issue isn’t my router, my home wifi has a strong signal and my cameras aren’t far away from the router.

While I don’t have plans to leave Wyze (they work great for me), if I did, I would probably bite bullet on the cost increase and go with Reolink because they have “Works with Home Assistant” quality certification for awesome local functionality. I have cameras from several other companies and I think that overall, Reolink actually prioritizing local functionality and HQ Home Assistant support gives it the best leverage for what I would want in a replacement option.

Note that a lot of people in Reolink’s forums and discussion groups (as well as the same for almost all other companies) have almost identical recurring complaints as you’ll see here in the Wyze forums, even about connectivity. But it’s possible that another company’s protocol designs will work more compatibility with a person’s network setup. I once outlined a lot of things that I found made a difference for connectivity, and ever since I’ve had nearly flawless connectivity with every brand, including Wyze (of which I have over 60 cameras and use multiple TB of data per month with no problems). For some observers reading this thread or stumbling upon it when searching about connectivity, it can be worth looking through a few of those items to see if any of them could help your situation if you’re having connectivity issues. It made a huge difference for me.

Which company is best for whom can depend on a number of variables, and what they value most. If a person wants affordability and doesn’t care about guaranteed excellent integration with Home Assistant, then Tapo is a top competitor to Wyze. Just be aware that there are a lot of concerns about them in recent times to the point that they almost had all their networking products entirely banned in the USA. I’ve tried a lot of camera companies and for the most part they’re a lot more similar than they are different, but some of those differences meet people’s specific use cases better than others. I like using them as redundancy backup so some server error or AWS outage doesn’t totally take down all my security at once. So I kind of like having strategic secondary cameras from multiple companies set up for these times. For some of you, even if you switch away from Wyze as your primary, you may consider using them in a similar way as backup redundancy since you have them anyway.

Either way, I hope everyone finds what suits them best :+1:
