I have an SD card installed and I formatted it and it keeps saying “Micro SD card is not available”

ok, i’m fairly new to this Cam system, but I only get still shots, i have an SD card installed and I formatted it and it keeps saying “Micro SD card is not available”. I have 2 Cams now on this system (one V3 and one Pan Cam) but i want to add 2 more Window Cams that just came out for the backyard. I need help.

From the Live View screen are you able to click View Playback and view your SD card?

I get this error on one v3 when clicking the Playback button in the Cloud Events screen.

Welcome to the Forum, @roadrunner9501!

When you say that you have…

…does that mean you have one regular Cam v3 and a Cam Pan v3, or do you have something else that you’re currently using?

Are you using a subscription with any of your Cams? If so, then what is it? (I’m guessing you aren’t because of the comment about “still shots”, but I want to be clear.)

What actual question are you seeking to have answered? I think we should probably ask to have your post moved to a new topic for better visibility, but it would help to have more information before doing that.

no, it’s saying the SD card isn’t available. but there IS one installed, not compatible? does it matter what SD card I use?

can you not see my entire list of what I wrote?

yes, i have one regular Cam v3, and one Cam Pan v3. not using any subscriptions yet…i used to be able to see more than just a still shot….I used to get maybe a 6-10 sec clip. now nothing more than Live feed, which certainly doesn’t do me a lot of good. I’m also planning to add more cams

What size is your SD card?

Also, have you tried doing a Full Format (FAT32) of the SD card in a computer and then put it back in the camera?

I read your post, which is why I asked the follow-up questions that I did. As I wrote, your post doesn’t seem particularly germane to this topic, which is currently in the Wishlist category and requesting that users who have a Cam Plus Lite subscription be able to upgrade to other subscriptions and then return to using Cam Plus Lite whenever any other subscription is allowed to lapse. I don’t see any mention of any of that in your initial post, so I’m trying to help you get visibility on whatever issues are important to you by clarifying your need and then potentially having the Moderators move it to a new topic with an appropriate title.

Were you using trial Cam Plus subscriptions before, when you were able to see short recorded clips? If that’s the case and you want to see event videos instead of static snapshots, then you basically have two options:

  1. Subscribe to a plan. If you’re considering adding more Cams, then your best deal with a subscription is probably going to be Cam Unlimited or higher. You can learn about some different options by viewing the comparison page. If you do decide to subscribe, then doing so directly from the Wyze Web site tends to get you the best price (you don’t have to deal with any app store markup) and the least hassle if there’s an issue (you can deal directly with Wyze instead of having them tell you to contact Google, Apple, or Amazon).
  2. Put microSD cards in all your Cams so that you can review videos (from either events-only or continuous recording). That gives you local storage on your cameras, and you can access that with or without a subscription. (Even though I’m currently using a Cam Unlimited subscription, I still have cards in my Cams.)

Again, I asked the questions because I’m trying to help you get proper attention for your valid concerns and adhere to the Community Guidelines:

We want you to feel welcome here, and we like to help!

Worth a shot to try. Make sure to do a Full format and not a quick.

YES!…ONE CAM v3 and CAM PAN v3, but I Have 2 more Cam Pan v3’s to add if needed. What Part of that Don’t you understand!? No, I’m not using a subscription for ANY of my cams, I USED to be able to see Video CLIPS….NOW ALL I Get is “Event STILL Shots”. and I get ERROR Message on SD Card, after repeated Formats. Can’t I just use the SD card for video clips and avoid paying subscriptions?

I’ve just done that with the 2nd Micro SD card and I Still get the error message saying SD card isn’t available. I’m so confused

ok, i’m sorry about that. but i only posted here because i’m new, and I was trying to determine whether I needed subscription or if i Could get away with just using SD events…can you help me with the differences?

yea, just did that now and still getting the same error msg….tried 2 different SD cards…same thing

Pan Cam V3’s have known issues with SD cards for some time.

I gave up on a pan cam v3 and gave it away, while another has worked as it should. There are issues from different batches it seems.

No apology is necessary, but I appreciate that! Thank you! :+1:

We were all new here at one point or another, and it took me a while to learn how to navigate this space, too. I asked to have your post moved to its own topic so that we could focus on it here and not derail the other discussion where you originally posted. The Moderators here are good at helping with that stuff.

Yes. That’s why I said that’s one of your options (#2 in a previous post). I think that’s fine, and that’s also how I initially used Wyze Cams and one of the reasons they’re a great value for a lot of applications. I’m not trying to talk anyone into subscribing, though I definitely see some benefits of doing so since I’ve tried Cam Unlimited.

If you take a look at the comparison page that I linked in a previous post, then that should show you what you what features are available without a plan as well as the various subscription tiers. You can absolutely use microSD recording for Events Only or Continuous recording without a subscription as long as the camera and card are cooperating (we’ll get to that below).

That’s what makes me think you were initially using a trial subscription, which records events to the Wyze cloud and allows you to view videos from the app’s  Events tab. I asked a previous question about that because I’m trying to figure out if that’s what happened with your experience.

When you don’t have a subscription and try to view events in that section of the app, the app will show you only a snapshot (if you look at the plans page I referenced, it calls this “Thumbnails only”) and prompt you to subscribe. Instead of hitting the regular (play) button there, you can tap the  SD Card icon (you might have to tap a blank area of the screen first to make this visible) to navigate to your microSD card recording timeline and view video event playback there…but that’s only if your recording to microSD card is working properly, so we also need to get into that issue.

That’s really frustrating, and unfortunately some Cam Pan v3s have been having issues with microSD recording for months. You can search the Forum to read more about those discussions, or you can let me know if you have difficulty with that and I can share some links later. The short version—at least as I understand it—is that some Cam Pan v3s don’t seem to recognize microSD cards when they’re inserted, or they’ll recognize the cards for a while and then stop acknowledging that and start to throw errors. It’s a vexing problem, and I don’t know what the answer is. Several of us have tried bugging Wyze again recently to get some more attention on this problem, and we’re still waiting for a response. :face_exhaling:

Having said that, it’d be good to know if both of your microSD cards are in good working order. Have you tried both of them in your regular Cam v3 to make sure they do what you expect? That might give us some indication of whether you’re dealing with a card problem or a Cam problem, and my experience with Cam Pan v3 has me leaning toward the latter, but it’s good to rule out the former.

Something else you could do if you think a particular card is part of the problem is use the SD Memory Card Formatter to format the card in a PC and do an “Overwrite” format to see if that “refreshes” the card. Some people might call this a “full” format, and it can take a while, so you can start it and let it run while you do other things on your PC. That may or may not resolve the issue.

I know this is a lot of information to wade through and try to absorb, especially when you’re a new user here, but we really do want you to feel welcome and help when we can.

Wow, what sort of help do you expect with that attitude? Attacking a fellow user who is just trying to help you out?

There are a lot of knowledgeable people here but you’ve alienated most of them. Good thing @crease seems to be more patient than me, I’m out.
