My roommates would like to view camera displays. However, they have been turning the cameras off and on so that their activity is not recorded. Is there a way to allow them to view a camera without being able to turn it off?
How are you sharing your cameras with your roommates? I log my wife into the Wyze App with my user name and password. I do ask her to please not change settings or update firmware.
FYI, my wife could delete Cloud videos even with all cameras on. Not sure if that is a concern for you also
Thank you for your response.
I have them set up as secondary users with access to all cameras. I do not want them to have access to cloud videos or SD card recordings. The ‘secondary user’ option restricts their access to those functions, which is great. My concern is that one in particular shuts off cameras so they don’t record him. And, he thinks the other roommate is doing the same thing.
So, my request is just finding a way to let users view the events feed, but not be able to make ANY changes to the cameras.
Since your roommates turn off your cameras in the App, what would stop them from unplugging the power cord or put a t-shirt over the camera?
Seems like they would find a way to not be recorded.
Its funny most of the requests are to add features to shared users because they’re too restricted, but in this case it is a feature that probably shouldn’t be available to shared users (or maybe should be optional).
I’m not aware of any way to prevent it other than the set an automation to turn the cameras “on” every 30 minutes or something to override what they did.
Another thing about guest accounts you have to keep in mind is that they can set up automations for some things that they probably shouldn’t be able to, and you cannot see those automations in the main account, which can make things confusing.
My approach is that guests are told not to mess with anything, do not turn off the cams, do not set up automations, or you lose the privilege. Probably not the answer you’re looking for but unfortunately there isn’t any way to stop them from powering the cams off.
