I decided to try out the new feature of having the home monitoring system trigger a rule, so I created a rule for “If monitoring switches to away mode then lock the door.” Unfortunately, it didn’t work, because the door locked right when I hit the “away” button on the keypad and the countdown started instead of waiting for the system to actually enter “away” mode. So it locked while I was still inside the house. I hope Wyze changes this in the future and has two different triggers, one for the start and one for the end of the exit delay.
Great example and insight. Thanks for sharing. I agree that the Away rule should only execute AFTER the exit delay is finished. I haven’t tested this out myself to confirm it, but I believe you. Hopefully Wyze can get this fixed. I think it is simply an oversight or bug since these triggers are so new, but considering they have an “Entry Delay” trigger but no “Exit Delay” trigger, maybe there is some issue with it that we aren’t aware of. Your example is really helpful in explaining why it matters though. Basically the rule should be when it switches to “Armed:Away” and not just when it is in the process of switching but isn’t armed yet [exit delay period].
I have my alarm set to arm on a 30 second delay and have a rule set to turn on a Wyze Plug. When the Wyze Plug turns on, it triggers an Alexa Routine to verbally announce on my phone that my system has armed. It is a feedback confirmation I use since I am driving down the road when the system arms. I watched it today, and the Alexa Confirmation announcement came in with about 26 seconds remaining on the app countdown indicator. This indicates that the arming command fired the rule and turned on the plug, the plug fired the Alexa Routine, and the announcement was delivered 4 seconds into the countdown.
