I’ve never used smart bulbs for the reasons listed here plus a few others. I highly recommend the Lutron Caseta line which has been updated recently with the Diva series. Yes, they are on the high end of the price scale but they have been rock solid with Home Assistant and are great just on their own with the hub.
I’ve had nothing but issues with the original Wyze sensors and now with Aqara sensors and a Zigbee dongle I got to replace Wyze. Wi-Fi devices have been hit or miss as well. I believe it has to do with frequencies Zigbee uses. I must have a lot of interference in that range. Lutron uses a different range and has been completely stable. I recently bought a Caseta motion sensor because of how reliable Lutron has been and it has been great as well. It’s very expensive for what it does and is a bit large. I much prefer the Aqara sensors but have to re-pair them in HA too frequently. I bought a bunch of IKEA smart switches because they are supposed to be excellent repeaters but they haven’t helped much. I’d love to find a way to stabilize the Zigbee network.
