Now, my question is - does Wyze Tech writers know what is the difference between “folder” and “file”?
Step 4 and 5 of the flashing manual instruct to create folder names “recovery_wcpv2.bin” then, drag this folder to the SD.
If you do this, nothing will happen !
One needs to get the FILE (not folder) “recovery_wcpv2.bin” and drag and drop it to the SD card root folder, to have any chance to start the flashing process.
Difference between “file” and “folder” is important and maybe Wyze guys could put some effort to be precise.
(BTW - I’m upset because Wyze update killed both my cards and even firmware recovery is not fixing the problem. This SUCKS !!!
Have you tried the firmware recovery procedure using the previous version of the firmware?
Also note they recommend using a FAT32 formatted card (so 32GB or less). If you don’t have one that small you should be able to create a 32GB partition (leave the rest as unused space) and format that as FAT32.
Camera died. Firmware flashing kept failing.
Luckily (or not so much) I purchased “extended coverage” plan with the camera and insurance company gave me my money back.
Unfortunately, I decided to buy Wyze Cam V4. First firmware update - camera no longer connects to my wifi.
Checked firmware flashing guide - the same mistake for V4 - folder instead of file.
Wyze just sucks! Horrible software, poor testing and when people look for solutions - even documentation is bad.
I will never EVER get anything from Waze. Chinese cheap cameras have fraction of issues Wyze has.
@dave27 - I had to do downgrade of the camera firmware a bunch of times (thanks to lovely quality of the Wyze firmware).
Wyze guys, posted a YouTube video and in this video they clearly tell you to take the “file” and place it in the root folder of the SD card. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzu5aNePOz8
Somehow, in their documentation, they mention “Folder”.
If you put “Folder” and firmware file in the folder - flashing won’t happen.
If you take the file and place it in the root folder of the SD card and follow instructions - flashing will work.
Yeah it is very confusing as I believe there are some older models where it does have to be in a folder and the instructions seem to have incorrectly copied that over instead of saying “file”.
