Have Wyze Doorbell Use Existing Chime

Well, again, Ring and Nest seem to have gone with the “Attach this piece inside of the chime-box” option themselves, so there must be a reason for doing that instead of building a rechargeable battery/power storage inside of the button-module.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they came up with their own “chime-connector-attachment” that connected wo the Wyze Bridge, or something along those lines. I hope that they do.

they can easily provide a power kit like Ring does to help power the doorbell, I hope they do

you know what the wierd thing is… they created a remote chime, they could create a remote “break the circuit” to connect to the mechanical doorbell that runs over their wifi protocol. Call it a “accessory”.

Toyota’s 2022 sedan lineup will be offering break pedals as ‘an optional accessory’ too. Because, after all, the physical brakes aren’t like, and integral function of what it means to be a car.

Wyze is fully capable of making the doorbell work with existing chime, I bet you they will release something in the future to make it work

I wonder if the one that comes with the Nest doorbell would work.

I want that. My mechanical door bell doesn’t always work and when it does it’s super hard to hear.

Another way to say that would be: Toyota’s 2022 sedan lineup will be offering break pedals instead of the break lever that was originally used on cars - and then have people complain about not being able to use their break levers that they currently have. They haven’t taken away the brakes, they offer a chime, just not the way you want it to be.

Here is a similar argument applied to Wyze cams: I can’t believe Wyze cameras dont record directly to VHS, who wants these new fangled SD cards when we all already have tons of VHS tapes and VCR’s to play them.

Its new technology, and new tech is not always compatible with old tech - in this case there are options on the market to meet your old tech needs, be happy about that. I for one much prefer the new chime/Alexa compatibility.

That line of reasoning is pathologically insane.

Wireless chimes are not ‘new’, and wired chimes are not ‘old’. This false dichotomy you have created to justify your cheer-leading is as disingenuous as it is transparent.

Wired chimes are simple and reliable. Wireless chimes (required by FCC Part 15 rules) depend on a shared medium (RF) which is subject to interference out of your control.

Not to mention technical glitches out of your control.

The copper wire that is installed in every home (in many cases, by building codes ordained by law) for the doorbell will essentially, never, fail. It will last at least a couple hundred years, very likely the age of the structure unless you damage it. There are today, existing chimes built into houses 50, 60, 100 years old now that can work with a Ring as much as I dislike the Ring product and company.

There could be no simpler mode of operation than closing a circuit or not, to strike a bell. It was binary simplicity in action, before computers were even invented.

And when the alternative is knocking with one’s fist, it is incumbent that your product be as reliable as it can because it’s certainly not going to me more reliable than one’s knuckles; but using the preexisting electromagnetic chimes that come with almost every house is pretty damn close.

I hope you enjoy the product experience you have earned when your internet goes out and you never seem to hear the repair man at the door because he rings the bell, but without internet, your Alexa can’t receive the message!

Wyze. This is a deal breaker for me. I have an old home with great wired bells and I don’t want to lose those. Figure it out!

Was about to order but read all the comments. Our home has a NuTone system and I do not want to change the chime box. I’ll wait to see if the product changes or will buy another product.

Same here. I have a musical Nutone doorbell that I love and just want the option of having it work with a video doorbell.

Agree with all of this. I may cancel my order until there’s a solution to use my existing wired chime.

So ironically my ring doorbell just died (how I have no clue). Asked the misses if I could order the wyze doorbell, but she likes our mechanical chimes in the home. I asked her if the little chime box would be good and she said no.

I am interested as well if this allows to use existing chime. It feels more standard to have it use same chime.

I haven’t done much wiring of doorbells or done my research, but couldn’t you just add tails to the chime box that Connect to the wyze wires? This would allow for the chime to ring as well as a transmitter to the wyze plug in?

Yeah I’m a bit confused on this one. I feel like this should of been a have to have. For 1 you are now adding the possibility of it failing and someone presses the door bell but it doesn’t actually go off on the speaker inside. For two, why can’t this just be an option? Out of the box it will work with your existing door bell. Or you can use this speaker. I would pay 10 dollars more for it to use the bell already installed. This is the first wyze product that I have been disappointed with.

I signed up for the pre-order, as it looked like a good add-on for a system at a remote location, and it could notify me remotely of doorbell requests… However, subsequently reading of the modification to the existing system, it looks like a non-starter… The basic problem for my application is that the existing system has doorbell buttons at two doors on separate floors which jointly ring two sounders, also on different floors. I was (and still am) looking for a system to replace the button on the most-frequently-used door, which in addition to triggering the two sounders, would offer a in internet notification and video interface with the button at that door… I want the system to continue ringing sounders on both floors (a simple existing single circuit: two buttons, two sounders system). I like the option of having a different ‘digital’ sounder, or maybe two, but I don’t want to require compromise of the integrity of the existing system (via rewiring of the power/sounder system).
My son has a Nest doorbell, it merged into his current arrangement, with the option of using the original sound or not.
It could be done, make it an add-on if necessary, Cheap&Simple is great, but when looking toward modifying an existing widely-used paradigm: listen to your ultimate users!

Ordered this right when announced and received today. Went through the setup process before I noticed that my existing bell chimes didn’t work. On top of this we could not get the RF chimes connected (and really why would I want those), so I basically haven’t a doorbell. Thanks guys! I’m returning this and won’t recommend until these features are resolved.

I just got mine and the chime also doesn’t work for me. It did work a few button pushes but now it’s dead…just constantly blinking the blue light and never connects again. Tried re-adding it in the app and won’t get recognized anymore.
