Well if you have the option of using the micro USB that seems like a safe bet. Plenty have done it and there is no question about the transformer, chime, wiring, etc. As long as it isn’t in direct rain (and even if so, as long as you make sure the wire isn’t drawing water into it) it shouldn’t be a big deal.
