Getting Sound Notifications even when sent to off

Notification on the DB2 have been terrible lately. I went 5 days a few weeks back with ZERO event recording or notifications. Now, I’m getting too many notifications . (And I’m paying for Cam Plus on the DB2)

Did something change? I only want to be notified about a persons motion. I do NOT want to be notified when there is talking but no person. They are doing construction on a neighbors house and the explicative doorbell is sending me non stop notifications.

Am I wrong for my expectation? If person motion is selected for notification but not sound, I should not get notification for talking, right? ****note. The person talking is NOT in view of the camera. There is no person, there is only loud talking in the distance.

Go into the notification settings and make sure “other sounds” is not checked off.

I have all sound notifications unchecked. Not sure what else I can do. I’m about to turn off notifications all together because it’s becoming too much of a distraction.

The only one of these 3 should be the person (mailman). I even have the sensitivity dialed way down.

@ToyzRUsKid1976,

Your expectations are same as mine. I have a few cameras that I want to listen for barking. If we’re gone or dog is at front door I want to be notified.

This seemed to be working until one of my neighbors started driving his/her Harley up/down the street a few times a day. Whole house shakes and a half dozen cameras notify me that a sound was detected.

But like you my Camplus settings should only record/notify me of selected events (barking).

A few days ago I became tired of the constant notifications and turned off “Sound” in “camera configuration > Event Recording”.

This seemed to solve my issue and I didn’t think on it until I read your post.

Then I started looking critically at what I observed.

With Event Recording Sound turned off I would have expected the Camplus sound choices to be absent or at least greyed out. They were not!!

Hmmmm. I began to think that turning off sound does just what the label says

Events Triggered By.

Theory - - if Sound is off then it falls through to the Camplus selections.

To test this I have just reconfigured the cams with Sound off but Barking selected in Camplus settings. I’m going to watch it for a couple of days and see what happens–especially when Harley goes down the street.

Stay tuned.

p.s. Add this to differences in the OG family. I never noticed that the OG’s do not have Camplus sound settings. Will explore this at a later date.

I’m not a subscriber, so when I navigate to :gear: Settings ➜ Notifications ➜ Manage to get to the Customize Detections screen, what I see in the SOUND section is that everything from Baby Crying to Gunshot has the checkboxes empty and greyed/unavailable. Beneath Gunshot is Other Sounds with a checkmark in a grey box in the TAG column, and an adjacent white empty checkbox in the NOTIFY column.

If you’re not seeing the Other Sounds line, then I wonder if this problem is like the one with Complete Motion Detected notifications that some subscribers experience. To see if that’s the case, you may want to try this:

  1. Navigate to :gear: Settings ➜ Event Recording.
  2. In the RECORDING PREFERENCES section, tap to select All Events.
  3. Tap Customize Detections.
  4. If Other Sounds is now visible, then there may be a check beside it in the NOTIFY column. Uncheck that if there is.
  5. Navigate back one screen to Event Recording.
  6. In the RECORDING PREFERENCES section, tap Smart Detection Events.
  7. I’d probably also tap Customize Detections again to confirm my previous selections.

I don’t know if this works with Other Sounds in the same way it does with Other Motion, but the Other Motion option has been documented as “hidden” when Smart Detection Events are selected, so that might also be the case with sounds. As someone who doesn’t use Cam Plus, I’m really just kind of guessing at this point, but it seems like it might be worth a look.

I have worked software support for years.

I feel like karma makes its rounds when someone else saves the day.

You freakin rock!!! That’s where the setting was hidden. Thank you!!!

@Crease,

Your spot on. I had never seen the “other motion or sound”. I followed your instructions and magically both other motion and other sound appeared.

@ToyzRUsKid1976,

If you follow @Crease directions you should see the missing “others”. The event will be recorded (you can’t change it) but the notification will be checked and you can you can un-check it.

Let’s see if this fixes our mutual issue.

Wow. It looks like that did it. Not only that, buti turned off “other movement” and it looks like I’m able to safely turn package and pet notifications back on AND turn off the detection zone. I couldn’t get it to stop notifying me every time a decoration blew in the wind or a shadow moved on my porch!

It did!!! So far so good!!! I’m a bit ADHD so between the annoyance of numerous notifications and bad notifications resulting in me picking up my phone…. this is awesome.

@Crease,

Your a maven. Considering how many users seem to complain about notification issues I would hope this gets some visibility to Wyze. Maybe it already has. Or is this a fix-it-Friday candidate.

Thanks again!

@dave27 FYI you actually nailed this. Unfortunately other was not a visible option. @Crease put the pieces together and explained how to make it visible. I think I’m good now. Thanks!

Reading stuff like this makes my day, and I’m genuinely glad I could help. Like I said before, I was kind of guessing about that particular option and was just putting pieces together based on what I’ve read here and elsewhere.

One of those pieces actually comes from @carverofchoice, who talked about this issue with Complete Motion Detected notifications in a different topic (that might shed some light on this situation for the curious). He mentions that he’s reported this to Wyze in the past but apparently they haven’t chosen to do anything about it.

That’s right on, too. As a fellow non-subscriber, I imagine @dave27 was seeing the same thing I was, so I just assembled the pieces.

Thanks, guys, for taking the time to post feedback!

To all,

I thought it was going to be a boring day-- just watching the election results. But no I have to dig into the “hidden features” :grin:

Seriously, I am seeing something that doesn’t make sense. Your fix worked as posted.

I turned off notifications in “other sound and motion in” All Events.

I then clicked on Smart Detection Events. Made sure my selections were proper. They were.

Then I clicked back to All Events and the notification in Other Motion had been checked.

I didn’t do this. Was it a UI suggestion, or was it actually changing what I had done. The “other sound” stayed as unchecked, just as I had left it.

I need to test all of this, especially when Harley rides by. As an aside haven’t I seen a thread about notifications magically changing?

I haven’t seen anything like that specific to this situation, though I believe I’ve seen sporadic reports of app updates causing (or appearing to cause) notification settings changes.

If you find that your settings selections aren’t “sticking” as expected, then I’d probably start with a profile refresh:

This is how I would get a clean copy of my account profile/settings on Android (click/tap to expand):
  1. Clear the in-app cache: From the Wyze app’s home screen, navigate to :bust_in_silhouette: Account ➜ App Settings ➜ Cache File Size ➜ Clear.
  2. Navigate back one screen to Account and tap Log Out at the bottom.
  3. Swipe the Wyze app out of the running Android apps.
  4. Long-press on the Wyze app’s launcher icon (on the phone’s home screen or wherever you tap to initially open the app) and then tap App info in the pop-up menu.
  5. Tap Force stop on the App info screen (may need to tap OK to confirm) and then tap Storage & cache.
  6. Tap Clear cache and Clear storage on the Storage screen.
  7. Back up one screen (back to App info) and then tap Open and proceed to log back into your Wyze account/app. (Optionally reboot the phone at this step for good measure and then launch the Wyze app after the fresh boot instead of relaunching it immediately from this screen.)

If you find that the issue persists (i.e., settings still aren’t “sticking”), then I’d probably log it and open a ticket that includes the Log ID to get it on the engineers’ radar for a possible future app/firmware update.

@Crease,

Thanks for the ideas. Been on app 3x beta from the beginning so I know the routine.

It does not stick. I set it in Other Motion then go to Smart Detection Events. Then go back to All Events and it is selected. Now the issue arises if you navigate from All Events without de-selecting “other motion” then it does what you asked.

Yes, I’ll nuke everything, retest, and see if anything changes. It’s due, haven’t done it since 581 was released!!

Edit: Other Sound appears to stick.

Sorry, should have been more specific on where to look for “other sounds”. Didn’t realize the notifications screen looks different for subscribers, for us cheapskates the notifications options just links you to the exact same screen as event recording options, and I’m used to doing it under event recording anyway.

To all,

I hate to add to this thread as it seemed to be solved but I am seeing something that may or not make sense.

I was thrilled with the Hidden Features solution it seemed to do what I wanted–get rid of the constant notifications. I was going to give it a few days and then decide if I wanted to create a log and open a ticket about the “Other Motion” not sticking.

Then I called it a day. I was up early and looked at my phone and the battery was almost drained. I said I could’ve sworn the battery was at 60% when I closed my eyes.

Then I checked my cameras and the Recent Events. What I saw was not good. I had hundreds, if not a thousand events. They were all “Motion” Events.

A bit of background. During all of this our county was experiencing a red flag windstorm. Yes, a lot of motion but before the hidden feature change my smart selections took care of motion.

This is where it gets dicey. I looked at the sd card and saw more events on the time line than I could follow. The following screenshot shows a sample of one of my cameras.

Its not in this shot but one camera had a timeline event that said 57 events.

Then I checked my android 14 notifications. I had one from Android and upon clicking it it opened to the following:

At this point I noticed that my phone, S21 Ultra, seemed slow.

It was time to undo the “Hidden Feature” change and reboot phone.

So this drained my battery.
Slowed my phone.
Made the SD timeline basically useless.
Gave me an Android 14 usage alert.

For the time being I’m going to live with the Harley going up and down the street.

I’m sure Wyze was not happy to see all this activity, but that’s their problem.

I’ve been a bit concerned as to why Wyze had not fixed this. Then my conspiracy brain kicked in and I said to self “maybe this is why it is” hidden".

Anyway, all seems back to normal. I realize the windstorm created this problem.

I’m going to keep testing for a few days. Hope this adds to the knowledge base.

p.s. Getting rid of the android warning was a pain. A reboot did not remove it. I finally had to go into Android Apps > Wyze > Battery and toggle the setting. Pain

I guess I can’t really give much insight since I don’t have “plus” but in order for my fire/CO alarm alerts to work, I have to have notifications on for the cam but uncheck everything (I don’t want any other notifications for those particular cams). It works fine and does not consume any extra battery. So I don’t see why unchecking “other motion” would cause more events/battery use. Maybe it is now sending a lot more to the Wyze servers for AI analysis? Don’t think that makes sense either though, even if it was, it should not result in an alert.

Maybe it is related to the issue you’re seeing with stuff not sticking? Maybe try the nuclear reset option of clearing cache both in the app and OS, logging out, and logging back in? Though in my opinion, just uninstalling and reinstalling the app seems to accomplish the same thing and is easier. That has solved a few glitches related to various 3.x app upgrades for me.

It would appear that other sounds and/or motion is still activating, maybe turning itself back on? If it was a wind storm, I would suspect sounds.

On my non-cam-plus setup for the cams that I don’t want to record or notify on anything other than smoke/CO here is what I have set:
Event Recording
Motion enabled (otherwise you can’t get to the customize menu)
Sound disabled
All events (you’d probably want to have smart detection events)
Customize detection has notify disabled for everything (you’d want to enable your preferred smart detections and leave “other” unchecked).
Tag is enabled for other motion (it has to be since I have motion enabled and smart detection disabled) but this does not notify me since notify is disabled for that
Tag is enabled for other sounds but since I have sounds disabled, it does not record/tag/notify on those events.
Notifications are enabled (has to be in order for smoke/CO to work)
Under manage events there, it takes me to the same screen as above with the same settings.
However I believe this screen is different for you? But if it doesn’t have an “other” then I wouldn’t think that would matter.

End result is I get tags on the timeline for motion events (fine with me), no tags for sound events, and no notifications at all except for smoke detector/CO.

@dave27,

Thanks for your insights. I had reset, cleared, reinstalled while testing the sticky issue. It did not fix it.

To get back to “Normal” it was not just unchecking the “Other Motion”. I had to reselect Smart Detection Events (not All Events).

As I stated at the beginning it may or may not make sense. I’m not ready to give up sound yet. I’m just trying to characterize what is going on before I log and get a ticket number.

And of course last night at end of day a new beta appeared. 3.2.5 b585.

Arghhhh - reset and retest everything, :cry:
