Floor Lamp Specifications

The base screw on my floor lamp is stripped and will not hold. I am mechanically inclined, so I think I can fix it. What is the screw thread specification ? Metric or Imperial ?

I’ll see if I can match it with my tap and die.

Unless you plan on taking the lamp apart, this is a quick fix.

Sorry, unfortunately my die kit doesn’t go as large as the base nut.

@TomG suggestion isn’t a bad one.

I’ve also had really good success with Gorilla glue.

I spy with my little eye a CIVIVI Elementum button lock utility knife. thumbsup2

You’ve got it. One of the few I don’t actually mind using rather than just fidgeting with :joy:

I just had to look it up on Amazon. Looks like a serious utility knife when compared to my Stanley.

That is also good. Make sure you put the glue on one part and wet the mating piece.

Years ago a neighbor backed into her pot metal post light and snapped it off about a foot from the ground. I bought a caulk tube of clear Gorilla Glue, hosed everything off and glued it back together. I waited a few days and gave the post a little shake. Felt like one piece. Didn’t want to push my luck. About 10 years later she wanted the light replaced with something fancier. When the handyman started the job, I asked if I could test the repair after explaining the history. It took a heck of a lot of force for me to break that bond.

It’s compact and well made, fits nice in the pocket as an EDC too. Also, fun to fidget with with the thumb stud flick and release with the button lock.
