After a couple weeks of daily use my bulb o floorlamp has statred to develop.a crack…
IS THIS NORMAL??
SEE ATTACHED PICTURE.
Sadly, yes. It seems the material used isn’t optimal for what is called thermal expansion. When it heats up from the bulb, the material around the bulb expands, but it doesn’t have enough flexibility or tolerance for this expansion, so it cracks under the strain of too much “thermal stress” without enough give to accommodate the expansion caused by the heat. It does seem that after the initial crack, most of them are fine because it now has a little more give for the thermal expansion stress.
If you’ve only had this a couple of weeks and are not pleased by this turn of events, you may be able to contact support about warranty or return options.
(p.s. don’t hate the messenger, I’m just explaining why this happened as asked…mine has a crack too…but it doesn’t bother me too much and it’s been fine after the initial thermal expansion induced crack)
