I’ve done similar many times for many reasons, but worth noting that for people not as familiar with power, you obviously need to be VERY careful doing this.
Can’t recall if it was you or not but someone here posted that they did a similar temporary setup but used the Wago style connectors. Wire nuts would also work. Slightly safer (temporary) setup.
At one point I considered re-purposing a set of old spring style speaker connectors with a switch for this sort of thing (still not perfect but safer than some other options). But I don’t do it enough to bother.
A few of my Floodlight Pros are actually setup with Extension cords.
It should be mentioned that for anyone tempted to do this, Wyze makes a great Floodlight Plug-in Mount:
That is much safer to use that what most people are considering.
I personally just followed Lifehackster’s video here:
But that was because Wyze hadn’t released a Floodlight plugin mount yet. If I got anymore floodlights in the future I’d just buy the official plugin mount.
Losing faith in the Floodlight Pro. I have two installed with a third waiting on me to finish the wiring. Been having a problem with them since mid December where they just aren’t reachable. I’ve had to re-add them about three or four times and they’re both good for a couple of days and then they drop connection. Not a WiFi problem. I have three of the Battery cams and not a lick of problem with those. Issue started after I got a beta of the app (wasn’t expecting it) and it’s been [Mod Edit] ever since. Doesn’t help that the house is a rental and the cameras started acting up just before renters arrived.
Similar problem here with my Wyze Cam Floodlight Pro cameras. It’s not a wi-fi problem. I get error codes -3005 and -8 after we lose power. Sometimes force closing the app works; sometimes not. Sometimes resetting the breaker it’s on helps; sometimes not. Resetting the camera and adding it is a real pain and I’m reluctant to do that. There needs to be a better way to resolve floodlight pro connectivity issues. Wyze needs to fix floodlight pro’s connectivity issues. And they need to improve their AI detection on people, etc.; it’s not reliable.
