Fix-It Friday 4/7/2023

Hi, everybody! :grinning:

Thanks for participating in the callout for new submissions! We have a new batch of topics so let’s get started!

:face_holding_back_tears: Reddit - iOS cameras when grouped are not displaying properly :face_holding_back_tears:

We’re looking into this scale issue and requesting full screenshots! So far we have reports of this on an iPhone SE and an iPhone 8. Is this happening to anyone else?

:negative_squared_cross_mark: Core - Error 3001 is happening on cameras such as Wyze Cam v2 :negative_squared_cross_mark:

We have been seeing improvement for the 3001 error issue after the fix on Wyze Cam v3. We are going to merge the fix into upcoming Wyze Cam v2 and Wyze Cam Pan firmware. We’ll share updates here as we get them! This is expected to happen after the 11.x update for Wyze Cam v3 and Wyze Cam Pan v2.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: Forum - Wyze Cam v2 detection zone is back to the single box style after 4.9.9.1851 update :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

We have the app team checking in on this. We’ll keep you posted!

 Discord - Can no longer pair Wyze Sense v1 sensors to the Wyze Sense Hub after the 4.32.12.534 firmware upgrade

We are checking with our team on this one and will let you know if we have further questions or information.

- Let’s Take a Look at Some Previous Submissions -

:walking_man: Forum - Alexa Person Detection Triggers on some Wyze Cam v3s with Cam Plus Lite have disappeared for new activations for some users. They are still present for some people or those who previously set them up :walking_man:

If you’re still experiencing this or this is happening with your Wyze Cam v2, please send in a support ticket with your Alexa user account so we can have the Alexa team check on things from their side. Then please post your support ticket number here so our team can scoop it up! If we don’t hear back from next week, we’ll remove this from the update list.

 Reddit - Wyze Cam v3 Pro and Wyze Cam Pan v3 30-second forward and back Playback buttons skip random hours

We don’t have a further update for this one yet. This is still in beta and we’ve generally been hearing positive feedback about this being resolved! Please take some time to test this feature and give us insight into your experience if you’re in our beta group.

:face_with_thermometer: Core - Wyze Cam Pan v3 detection zones not working :face_with_thermometer:

We’re still working with our engineers to identify a good fix for this issue. We’ll keep you posted! But in the meantime, we’re working on connectivity difficulties some folks have reported with this product. We’ll return to the motor drift issue after we get the connection stabilized. We appreciate your patience.

:sob: Reddit - Event recordings are skipping/stuttering :sob:

We slowed down the .4054 firmware gradual release to check on some reports from community members. The people that have this update are telling us that this issue is resolved! If you’re using this firmware, have you encountered the dropped frames/time travel issue since updating? Please let us know!

:clock12: Forum - Wyze Cam v3 microSD card Playback is skipping the first minute of every hour (excluding midnight) :clock12:

This is in beta! If you’re a beta tester, please try out the new firmware and give us feedback about it.

:floppy_disk: Core - Playback stutters when selected for the first few seconds of Playback from the microSD card :floppy_disk:

This is also on the firmware that just went into beta testing! Beta folks, please put it through its paces and let us know how the new build performs.

:crescent_moon: Discord - Wyze Cam v3 Pro spotlight will not turn off after first motion detection at night. Resetting fixes it but becomes an issue again about a month later :crescent_moon:

We believe we’ve identified a possible cause of this problem! We’re still testing it internally and will send the fix to external beta later.

:house: Reddit - Wyze Cam Pan v3 does not return to set home position :house:

We don’t have further updates on this one yet. We’re still testing possible fixes from our side and are currently focusing on the reported connectivity difficulties.

:astonished: Core - Cameras appear offline in the app, though they are online and viewable :astonished:

No further update here! We have the design ready for the health checker that will help with this issue. It won’t be in the next release but we have it in the pipeline for a future firmware release.

- Updates For Dormant Topics -

:mantelpiece_clock: Wyze Sense Hub Events not showing the correct time :mantelpiece_clock:

We’re experimenting with a proposed cloud solution but can’t offer a timeline yet.

 Greater control over marketing pop-ups in the Wyze app

No further update for this one yet. We’re working on a toggle for improving control over marketing messages in the Wyze app. We’re also working on auditing what we send and when as well as a duplicate data cleanup initiative that will help ensure that messages sent to folks are more relevant to them. We’ll provide more information as we move forward.

Thank you, everyone! We hope you enjoy your weekend. Come back next week for more Fix-It Friday!

Can you go into more detail? What exactly isn’t displaying correctly?

I’m using an iPhone 8 and I have a camera group of 7 cameras and I’m not having any issues.

I’m using the 2.40.0(15) IOS app

I’m not entirely sure it is a known systemic issue currently. The thread you referenced is a very old wishlist request from late 2021 that has had no activity since that time. I believe it may have been posted due to a firmware issue that may have present back then but has since been resolved. There haven’t been any reports of the behavior since then. This may have just been a one off occurance for you. You can test it by forcing your hub to battery and then removing power from your router. Plug them both back in and see if it will regain network connectivity. As you indicated, you have had the hub successfully reconnect before.

The sensors do not connect via WiFi. They connect only to the hub using an RF signal. If you were seeing that your sensors were online in the app, then the hub had to be online as well.

There were some reports on Reddit that the grouped cams did not show correctly on the screen, we do not know exactly what they mean which is why we are looking for screenshots for anyone that has this issue.

Oh yes now I know.

This issue appeared after the last app update

Before you could view 4 cameras all at once , now in landscape mode it’s switched to vertical format and you only get 2 camera live feeds and their cut in half.

It’s not only on iPhone SE and 8, I think it’s newer models as well.

This was mentioned a while back, you can check out the discussion here Grouped cameras grid view in lanscape mode

I am using an iPhone 8, running the 2.40.0(15) app and I’m experiencing this issue.

Here’s a log in case you need it.

@angus.black @peepeep just making sure you guys don’t miss this part since you both reported this issue. Wyze is willing to help get it resolved. If you can get an Alexa support ticket number, tag Jason with that number in here so he can get it to the right team to contact Alexa to coordinate a resolution.

Edit: Oh wait, I think I misunderstood on my first read, I guess they want you to contact WYZE support and give them your Alexa Account username or email, and then let Jason know what the Wyze support ticket number is. On my first reading I incorrectly thought they meant to contact Alexa Support and get a number from them.

No Alexa involvement for me. I’ve never used it.

The logs do not help much on this one, what we are looking for are screenshots from users with the issue.

Upgrade this week brought down two V2 cameras…I have tried everything and cannot get them to deliver video…so I am leaving Wyze forever! Bought 3 Blink cameras on sale. From experience of several years, I KNOW they are reliable, thus the cost.

Hello, everyone! :grinning:

Thanks for coming back for another edition of Fix-It Friday! Here’s what we have for you this week:

 Discord - Can no longer pair Wyze Sense v1 sensors to the Wyze Sense Hub after the 4.32.12.534 firmware upgrade

If you’re experiencing this, please reach out to our customer support folks. We’re keeping an eye on these reports. However, due to this product having been replaced and no longer sold a long time ago, we may not have the resources to dedicate to fixing this issue. We have collected details and logs from the people who can reproduce this problem and have been looking into it.

:face_with_thermometer: Greater control over marketing pop-ups in the Wyze app :face_with_thermometer:

We turned off a lot of our marketing messages to help with this. We still have work to do for removing duplicate entries in our marketing messages and expect that to also help. We’re continuing to optimize our messaging and non-service-related popups can be controlled via the Notification references settings. We’re going to remove this entry from our update list after this. If you have trouble with our messages, please don’t hesitate to post!
Wyze Sense Hub Events not showing the correct time

We’re going to start internal testing for a build that includes a fix for the time sync feature. We’ll keep you in the loop!

Thanks, folks! Have a great weekend. We’ll see you next time for Fix-It Friday!

What a disaster! These devices are garbage and that’s where mine are going in short order. I’ve never seen so many fixes and breakdowns in a technology. Using customers as beta testers for your junk is dishonest and unethical. And these are used for personal security making it even worse.

Yes … pls bring back grid selection or make points for detection zone. Currently unsubbed as it’s no longer worth getting notifications night and day… … :slightly_frowning_face:

RTSP and/or ONVIF.
Please consider adding them.
There was a beta firmware with RTSP, but now it’s gone.
So many people are waiting for proper support for those protocols.
I personally don’t mind losing cloud connection and other features if I can have RTSP/ONVIF.

https://forums.wyze.com/search?q=onvif
https://forums.wyze.com/search?q=rtsp

botch searches have 50+ results.

I contacted support so many times, and asked for it, maybe Fix-It Friday will help

Sadly, no, neither support nor Fix-it-Friday can help with this, since fix it friday is solely about “bugs” or things that aren’t working as they were purposely designed already. Those items, even if they had the most votes would still not win or be considered for Fix-it-Friday because they are considered new feature requests, rather than bugs. That’s what this part of the original post is explaining:

The wishlist is the main thing Wyze employees use to consider feature requests like this.

BUT, Wyze DOES actually review the wishlist regularly, and on the bright side, Wyze tagged both of those requests as “maybe later” rather than the “Probably not” category. So the best thing to do at the moment is keep the conversation going in those threads and convince others to vote for them and show that they are in demand.

A second positive I can mention is that Wyze recently indicated that they were looking into a new way to allow livestreaming to things like Youtube which would mean they have to be testing out some kind of other protocol:

In the meantime, a lot of people have been pretty happy with workarounds like Docker Wyze Bridge which allows converting most of the Wyze devices into several other protocols including WebRTC/RTSP/RTMP/HLS.

My wyze cam v3 (not the wireless and not the pro or pan) are working great and not getting the 3001 errors anymore but my cam v2 (not the wireless and not the pan) is still skipping and getting the 3001 error.

My wireless cams were offline for three days. then came back on. Now the wired camera v3 is offline and not restarting…

Can anyone experiencing the Wyze Cam v2 detection zone issue please restart your app and see if it is fixed?

Edit: You may also need to restart the camera.

Hello, hello! :grinning:

It’s a new month so don’t forget to vote for new Fix-It Friday submissions! But before we add the new batch in next week, let’s take a look at what we’ve been working on already:

 Reddit - iOS cameras when grouped are not displaying properly

We’re still looking into this! If you’re experiencing this, we’d appreciate a full screen recording showing the unscaled full screen. We’ve tried this on multiple iOS devices but haven’t been able to reproduce this problem.
