Feedback needed on new Event Detail Page!

Hello Wyze Community! Need your opinion here: We are working on a new version of the Event Detail Page (The page you land on from the notification or the Event List). Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated!

I guess Iā€™d start with questions, not actual feedback:

  • What am I supposed to be seeing thatā€™s different?
  • Is this a proposed change that affects only subscribers?

What I see:

  • You added the detection icons to the top of the individual event in addition to still having the words written out the way they were before. I REALLY like this. Previously you only had the word ā€œpersonā€ but I like the visual icon better, and yet if someone likes the words better, that is still there for them. I kind of wish you had space to do both on the events timeline because it only uses words like ā€œPersonā€ and all AI detection words are purple and look the same. It would be awesome if they had enough space to use icons too for fast visual identification without having to read the words for each event.
  • You changed the navigation from swiping right to move left to a newer event and swiping left to move right to an older event to instead be swiping up and down (presumably up to moves down to an older event, and swiping down moves up to a newer event). I think this is also improved consistency with the main part of events tab. The events tab moves vertically, so it was always a little weird that on a single event we swiped left and right to move forward/backward between events when the events timeline was in a vertical orientation. Plus this will be a lot more consistent with most social media videos where people are used to swiping up and down to switch between video shorts. I think this is improved navigation for all those reasons.
  • Iā€™m a little confused why the "red dot with ā€œLiveā€ is showing up on something that is an event and not a live stream:
    • image
    • Isnā€™t that supposed to only show up when we are viewing a live stream? But this is showing up when itā€™s an event as indicated by the thumbs up and down, the limited event time, the share this event prompt, the speed change option, the option to ā€œShareā€ and the prompt to ā€œGo Liveā€ instead, even though you are already saying it is Live with the screen-overlay. Something is wrong here.

A bit confused without the context of what you are changing from observation and comparing to what I have now:

  1. I think it is a bit redundant to have a label say Motion and Person and then the icons to the right. I would do one or the other. If you select the icons, I would make them a bit smaller

  2. The options vertically under the stream / Event: I would make them be at the bottom of the Event Video. It actually ties to that and should be near it. I would make the Help Us Improveā€¦ an additional icon to click on with a popup of the options to select or deselect for the event. Have all the verbiage just clutters the display up.

I agree. As someone who doesnā€™t use Events very often (though I do find myself using it more now than I used to), Iā€™d be looking for some before-and-after visuals for doing a real apples-to-apples comparison. More context about whatā€™s been done and where feedback is being sought would be helpful.

Well, as a suggestion, Iā€™d like to be able to filter events by time. In the mornings, I usually get notifications like ā€œpet at 3 amā€, ā€œpet a 5:27 amā€, ā€œpet at 6:30 amā€. When I tap one notification, all the others disappear, so Iā€™m forced to:

  • memorize the time of all notifications, and
  • slowly scroll through a lot of events to find the other ones.

One thing that makes it even worse is that my (Android) phone is set to spanish, so Wyzeā€™s app automatically (and unavoidably) changes to spanish. That makes the filters by ā€œPetā€ over events to stop working. For example, if I filter ā€œPetā€ (ā€œMascotaā€), it shows all events (motion, sound, person, vehicle, petā€¦). I guess the problem is related to the fact that the events are tagged in English (Pet, Person, Vehicle), but the filter is in spanish (Mascota). Curiously, the filter by ā€œPersonaā€ (Person) does workā€¦

Ugh. That sounds annoying. I wonder if the language localization thatā€™s been requested in a Wishlist topic would fix that. I donā€™t know, because Iā€™m not fluent enough in other languages to try running an OS or apps in something other than English, but it certainly seems like a legitimate concern.

In fact, I think the appā€™s localization is what caused the issue :slightly_smiling_face:
At first the app was in English and worked fine. Months ago it started detecting the phoneā€™s language and changed to spanish, and then the problems started.

Oof. See? I donā€™t even know. Iā€™m just thinking of a time when I tried to help another user who had the app in Portuguese and it didnā€™t seem to be showing the same Settings options as the English version I use. :man_shrugging:

Thanks for the additional information! :upside_down_face:

Good points! For the live video - it happens when the event is not fully ready. For example, when an event occurs, we will immediately send a notification to you. If you opens it, and the event is not ready yet, we will show live stream to you instead.

Thanks @WyzeNathan for clarifying. I shouldā€™ve realized that it was an ongoing live video. I overlooked that detail because in my mind it was a past recording you are posting so I already rethought that it canā€™t be live nowā€¦but forgot to think that it couldā€™ve been live AT THE TIME of the recording. :man_facepalming: Now that I rewatch it I can see that it also said it was still live (ongoing) on the events page before entering the individual event.

Iā€™m not sure I like that change (to have the Live message overlay the view instead of the way things were before where the ā€œLiveā€ clarification was shown underneath the event on the right hand side and didnā€™t block part of the video. I kind of liked that better, personally. However, I can see that doing it this new way matches more consistently with the camera live stream. So it looks like you tried to make it match the live stream more when the event in the events tab is still live and ongoing. However, the thing I like with the home tab camera live stream is that the live icon on the screen disappears when the rest of the onscreen menu disappears too (ie: the spotlight control, the resolution control, the speaker and microphone controls that overlay the view). Here it seems like the live icon on the events tab doesnā€™t disappear, and keeps showing on the screen (contrary to what happens on the home tab live stream). Is that accurate? It is hard to tell with such a short recording. I would personally like it to function the same way the Home tab live stream does, and disappear and stop blocking the view if I single tap on the screen to get rid of it, and come back again to show on the screen if I tap it again just like I can do with the livestream.

If you are going to make ongoing live events in the events tab be more consistent with the way the livestream is in the home tab, then maybe consider adding the other functional controls there too, such as the microphone, resolution, spotlight, etc., otherwise itā€™s not consistent anyway, and I think I would prefer the live notice to stay out of the way and not block part of the view.

But I would also like to hear from other people.

Thanks for the reply Nathan!

Thatā€™s one of the thoughts I had, too (along with the lack of context issue). Iā€™m still not sure what the community is being asked to evaluate for feedback.

Good Catch! Yeah, Motion & Person tags are redundant. It is a bug and we are on it!

Unfortunately, the forum does not allow me to send a longer videoā€¦ The idea here is to get some initial feedback on the UX and check if we missed any critical things in this new design.

Yeah, itā€™s limited to something like 5MB. So you have 3 options:

  1. Make it short
  2. Compress it A LOT or reduce the resolution
  3. Host it somewhere else like Youtube, make it ā€œUnlistedā€ so it doesnā€™t show up to random people, then post the embedded link in the forum. - This option allows you to post any length and good quality video, while still ensuring the video is no more public than if you just posted in the forum. I recommend considering this for the future.

Iā€™d like to go back to one page, period, like the previous app. Show me everything on one, give us the individual on/off buttons back on that page, and buttons to ā€œturn on all camerasā€ turn off all cameras, so were not clicking around and all over on multiple tabs/pages

Thanks for the feedback! For the ā€˜turn on all camerasā€™ action, would the shortcut under automation fulfill the use case?

Got it! I did post a thread here with a longer video. I hope this could help! Reddit - Dive into anything

Nope. Everything on one page and not have to fumble back and forth between 3 tabs is what im saying. Like the previous app

Thanks. That is better!

I like the download, delete, share options.

I like that it still showed some options in landscape view. But I still didnā€™t see the option for audio/sound on/off in landscape view. Thatā€™s always frustrated me. I will start an event turn my phone landscape so I can see the event better, and then find out thereā€™s no audio. So have to flip back to portrait just to turn the audio back on then flip back again to landscape. I wish you would resolve that issue since it always defaults to no sound and I often try to jump right into landscape view so I can see the full event better.

I do like that we could still see what detections were in this event while in landscape view by seeing the detection icons. That helps a lot for when weā€™re swiping through videos and may not have filtered down to one specific thing.

It looks like it flips through events pretty fast which is great.

I didnā€™t see what happens when you try to zoom in though. It would be great if zoom in works as expected. Though. In portrait view if you try to zoom in, it should use the full screen to zoom in, not just limited to a small box on the top part of the screen.

If youā€™re going to make big updates to the events screen, I would highly suggest adding a Time filter now as well. Similar to how the web portal works. It is really frustrating to scroll down through hundreds or thousands of events at the end of the day just to try to get to the event early in the morning from almost 20 hours ago. That is one of the worst things about the events tab right now. It takes forever to go find any event from morning time. Especially, in a high traffic camera area. It makes it almost unusable sometimes. That would be the greatest update to the events tab hands down if we could tell it to only show events during a certain time period.

I do wonder, if the portrait view is too empty, Too minimalist. Could you do something better with the bottom half of the screen instead of leave it totally blank? I donā€™t have good suggestions off the top of my head, but it does seem like a lot of wasted space that could potentially hold or do something useful.
