False detections

Detection Zone won’t actually block anything — Wyze Cam v4 on the Cam Plus subscription

I’ve got Detection Zone turned on and blocked out the entire frame on my Wyze Cam v4 (firmware 4.52.9.6119), but it makes no difference at all — still get triggered and notified constantly by wind moving tree branches and a hedge. Whether I block it out or not, same result.

To make it worse, since it keeps triggering, Smart Detection just labels whatever’s sitting in frame — same parked car got called “Vehicle detected” over and over, then when I turned off Vehicle notifications, the same tree movement started getting tagged as “Person detected” instead.

To confirm — the only motion happening anywhere in the frame during these events is inside the blocked-out zone. Nothing outside it is moving. So this isn’t a mislabeling issue, the zone simply isn’t suppressing the trigger.

Anyone else running into this? Would like to actually be able to block out what I want.

ON EDIT

I uploaded it to YouTube. Keep in mind that the detection area with that palm tree is completely blocked out of the detection area.

Welcome @tshred56 , Take a look at the image so you can see what and where the trigger occurred. If you have a sample video, upload it and many in the community will provide some insight.

I am using Detection zones on my Cam V4 and not experiencing the same issue.

I would love to upload it but I’m a newbie and it won’t let me.

On edit I went ahead and put it on YouTube.

Based on your zone setting, I would bet that the shadows on the ground it what triggered the event. Once the event is triggered, it looks to see what the image has in it and reports based on your settings

Same thing at night when the wind blows that palm.

I’m using Detection Zones on my V4 also to block out moving tree branches.

Problem is that when moving in the wind the tree branch can slightly enter the “Active Detection Zone” and the whole tree branch is flagged by the Motion Tagging.

I would try removing the starred blocks from your Detection Zone.

In addition to what @TerryL mentioned, if you enable motion tagging (green box), that is actually what determines if something is in the zone or not. The box is bigger than the motion so can go into your detection zone and trigger an event, even if the motion wasn’t in it. So sometimes you have to block out a bit extra to avoid that. Turning on the box for a while can help you see what extra spots you might need to block.

Okay I expanded it

It can take a bit of trial and error, over time I’ve gotten mine tuned pretty well. I know some people don’t like to keep the green box enabled but I like having it on (helps draw your focus in the preview picture and also helps determine why something was a false alert).

Im not positive that detection is working correctly. Still doing my own testing. However at 3 secs on your video there is a person walking way in the background and in 1:11 mins in, there’s a motorcycle riding past in the same background. Could that be what’s being detected?

The person and motorcycle are too far away to be detected … plus if they were detected they would show with motion tagging green boxes.
