Extension cords for v3 cameras

Does Wyze sell variable length USB power cords for V3 cams?

Yes it does, 20ft.

Im using 25 and 50 foot cords from Amazon. No issues

You are lucky if a 50 foot USB cord is working. Most of us can’t get anywhere near that. The voltage drop in USB cords is too high.
If you need that long, you are better to either extend AC power closer, or run power at a higher voltage and regulate it down to 5 volts near the camera.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I put all my cameras on a 43ft long USB cords. None of them would do two way radio or siren, very important to me.

I shortened the lengthy by connecting them with 10ft USB cords and everything works like charm.

Can’t full physics

Been running with this set up for years. I replaced my outdoor outlets with ones that have USB ports built in so I don’t need to use the power bricks and can still use my outdoor outlets when needed. My cameras are under the eaves . 2 in the front and 2 in the back. The USB cables are stapled to the underside of the roofing trim with cable clips. The front cameras are plugged into an outlet on the side of the house and the rear cameras are plugged into the outlet on the back of the house. They aren’t physically far from the outlets, it just takes that much cable to run up the walls and under the eaves to reach the cameras so you don’t see the cables.

Great idea, extending the Wyze power cord by using USB extension cords!

Bet you will find that the work marginally. What I mean by that is that basic function works, but things that draws extra power may not. For example, IR illuminators, spotlight (for cameras with that capability), audio to the camera, or the siren function.

They’re just basic v3 cams. No spotlight. Notifications work, playback works. Just have the hazy lens /water infiltration problems like others have with using them outdoors. IR works fine, starlight sensor works fine.

Wow! That’s impressive. As others already stated, Nearly everyone I know of who goes longer than 16’-26’ or so have intermittent failures of various kinds, whether with cloud recordings, the camera randomly going offline or rebooting, freezing up while they try to use the microphone or speakers or siren, etc. It particularly happens a lot to people using things like the pan cameras or V3Pros that need more power such as for the motor or spotlight, etc.

I’m impressed you got up to 50 feet with no issues at all! That’s actually really great to hear. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a link to the cords you used by chance? Cord quality can make a big difference with the length sometimes and you must’ve found a good one in addition to a good adapter.

I just searched my amazon order history and all i could find is the 25 footers I ordered. The 50 footers had to have come from ebay. It was a while ago. They aren’t anything special, just a 50 foot white micro usb cable. I suspect that me changing out my outlets to ones with usb ports built in may be helping also, since I’m not relying on the wyze power bricks

I powered my Wyze Cam V3 with a ~33 feet micro USB cable, but that was connected from the old Floodlight V1 auxiliary USB Type A port. If I use a Y splitter USB cable to power another V3 or V4 cam I think that will be too much.

I wonder if I can use a USB splitter for the micro USB port on the Floodlight V1. Even if it has enough power I think I lose the ability to control my Floodlight since I don’t think it will get detected in the “Accessories” section of the app.

Could I have the link?
How much was it (when you bought)?

Yes, and no. It kind of depends on the camera. Probably fine with 2 OG cams, and probably 2 V3 cams. I say this because it worked okay for me when I used a splitter for a V3 cam and an Eufy indoor cam, but when I tried a V3Pro cam, both cams had problems.

I don’t think it affected that for me when I used a splitter. Though the accessories option does go in and out sometimes even when I wasn’t using the extra USB port. I think there is just a bug in the accessories code that makes it not show up sometimes. I have the same thing happen with the other accessories once in a while.

That’s good to know that the USB Type A port has enough power. It probably didn’t work for the V3 Pro because it requires 5V / 2 amps.

When I was I mentioning about trying to use splitter for the micro USB port, I meant the main port which Cam V3 uses and controls the Floodlight in the app. If I use a splitter for that specific port, it is very likely the Floodlight won’t get detected.

It is very likely the micro USB port only has 5v / 1 amp power though. I remember people were trying to plug in a V3 Pro to upgrade, but it won’t power up. I wonder if a V4 will work.

I remember disconnecting the V3 camera from the Floodlight and the PIR sensor floodlights still works.

Oh yeah, sorry for the misunderstanding. You’re probably right about if you did that with the main controller port

That is 100% correct. That’s why Apple doesn’t recommend using non Apple cords to charge their iPhones (that and also don’t want to loose revenue stream  )
