Duo cam doorbell requires disassembly every time there is a wifi issue

Although other Wyze cameras have built in recovery, this product does not. I’ve asked Tech support repeatedly for a fix and only receive back long essays as to why they are sorry. That said, before I yank this out, does anyone have a fix? It has plenty of wifi signal and works fine when I remove the battery and let it auto connect again.

Not an issue with my duos and I’ve had several wifi disruptions thanks to Comcast/Xfinity. All devices reconnected automatically.

This sounds like a setup, router or defective duo issue. That is not a process you should have to endure.

Robust wifi, and all other Wyze cameras do fine, just not the duo cam doorbell. Second one. Same issues.

Did you do a wired install of the duo (connect the existing wires) or is it strictly battery? Is the second one a replacement or did you have front and back duos installed?

I’ll suggest possibly defective until I learn more about how you installed.

Doorbell is wired, Battery remains charged.

What is the doorbell transformer voltage rating. e.g. v/vac 16/10 or another value set? Single doorbell? Did you install the separate chime controller in the chimebox wiring? (separate purchase if you didn’t have dbv2) Or did you use a bypass wire? Does your existing house chimes ring with a db press or are you using the wifi chime package with the duo? Or did you buy a duo without the wifi chime?

Sorry for all the followup questions but it will provide necessary and needed insight to better diagnose what could be going wrong.

Thanks.

Thank you again for persisting to help. It took awhile for me to be able to measure the wired doorbell voltage. It is 19.5v. We used to have an old fashioned push button doorbell, so the chime was already in the house. It works great when it works.

Did you install the chime controller in the chime box? That is helpful to know and could eliminate a possible issue with the installation and the power cycle and a possible interruption in the power flow to the doorbell. Even if it works when the doorbell button is pressed. If you didn’t, a short in the circuitry could happen and could be the cause of the wifi loss to the doorbell causing the need for the reset procedure you have to perform.

Let me know. Thanks.

We only installed the doorbell, as the instructions said .

Unsure how we would add a chime to our doorbell.

You’re not adding a chime, you’re making it possible to use your existing house chime with the doorbell. The chime controller which was packaged with the dbv2 was found to be helpful with the installation of the duo doorbell. It has to be purchased separately from Wyze for $17.95. There is also a by-pass wire method but don’t recall if it was included with the duo doorbell.

Without the chime controller, there is a risk a short may happen between the transformer wiring in the chimebox to the doorbell since the function is to keep the battery charged. The duo operation is from the battery but the circuitry from the chimebox to the doorbell could be compromised if not wired properly to complete the charging process to the duo battery and facilitate the house chime ringing. The power cycle could be interrupted and cause the lose of wifi to the doorbell.

Was the chime type changed to mechanical for the duo in the app?

I base my responses on actual experience from having the dbv2 installed and then upgrading to the duo for both front and back doorbells and having my house chime ring separately between both. My installations have operated flawlessly using the chime controllers on the v2 and duo setups.

Update: I pulled the instructions from my duo package. It does not address using the chime controller for using your existing house chime. I assume that it is because Wyze is assuming you are going to use the wifi chime that is packaged with the duo unless you purchased one that did not include it.

Using the existing house chime was an afterthought in the in installation of the duo and Wyze came up short with proper instructions for that type of setup. This was addressed extensively in the forum for users that wanted to use their existing house mechanical chime.

Fmills, again, thank you for your help! The doorbell in the app is set to NONE. It is now set to mechanical. Let’s see what happens!

A little unclear though on the discussion about the $18 chime. I don’t understand why I need that, if that is what you are saying… and if I do install it, won’t it then be used vs our in-house doorbell?

No, you don’t need the wifi chime if you are trying to use the house chime. You do need the separate chime controller unless you used the bypass wire method in the chimebox. One of those is necessary to successfully connect the duo and use the house chime. This would prevent a possible power fault between the transformer wiring in the chimebox to the duo disrupting the wifi.

Good luck with your adjustments.
