Doorbell v2 Intermittent Notifications

I recently installed a Video Doorbell v2. The camera records all events, but I only receive a notification for about half of them. I am using an iPhone. I am subscribed to Cam Plus for the doorbell. It is updated to the most recent firmware. I have other Wyze cameras and they all notify me for every event. I don’t know what is going on with this one. Anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to the Forum, @kenth!

Yes.

I’m tempted to just leave my answer there, since you asked a closed-ended question, but instead I’ll point you to perhaps the most comprehensive topic (AFAIK) related to this issue:

There are other related topics if you’re interested in some light reading. You can find those with the Forum’s search feature.

For a while, this seemed to be related to firmware, starting with the update from April of this year, and Wyze has released additional updates since then. I experience it occasionally with the current production firmware, but it also seems like it may be app dependent, because I seem to get more consistent and reliable notifications on my phone running the last v2.5x app than I do on my phone running the v3.0 app (both production versions on Android).

Also, Wyze developers seem to be doing constant back-end work. Just a few days ago, the “Cameras as Chime” feature stopped producing the “Fail” message in the v3.0 app, and that was without any apparent app or firmware update, so it’s reasonable to suspect a server tweak. :man_shrugging:

Thank you for the response. I looked at many posts and none that I found matched my situation, and even this one that you referenced doesn’t either.
I am getting notifications of some events but not others. I suspected that it may have something to do with the firmware, but was at least hoping it wasn’t just me. :slightly_smiling_face:

No, it’s definitely not just you. I have an open ticket with Wyze Support for my Video Doorbell v2 and just yesterday doing some testing I got a notification on my phone running the v2.5x app but not on the phone running the v3.0 app. I don’t know where the root of the issue is, but in my limited experience it’s at least somewhat app-version dependent.

I think you’re right to suspect firmware, too, as the topic I linked definitely pointed to that and it was a main reason I disabled automatic firmware updates for my doorbell. I finally got current with the firmware on that a few days ago, and I can’t say that my notification experience is significantly worse than before (when I was still running January’s firmware update). Still, given Wyze’s history, I remain cautious about new firmware versions. :crossed_fingers:

The whole back-end development is a mystery to me, too. Just within the past couple of weeks I saw the Picture-in-Picture feature and other UI changes on my Cam v4s that I don’t think was there before, and its appearance wasn’t immediately preceded an app or firmware update. :man_shrugging:

When you say that “[t]he camera records all events,” does that mean you’re seeing things tagged in the recording timeline and/or listed on the Events tab but just not receiving push notifications for all of those? If that’s the case, then I think I’d be inclined to submit a log the next time I notice that occurrence (or maybe even try to cause such an event if you can) and then follow that up by opening a ticket with Wyze Support, specifically including the Log ID. Support won’t have direct access to the log (and likely wouldn’t know what to do with it, anyway), but at least you can provide a detailed description of the problem and have it connected to actual data that can be passed to the engineers for review.

What happens if you navigate to the doorbell’s Settings and hit the Reset Services Reset button?

Also, this isn’t specific to the Video Doorbell v2 at all, but I’ve read several of @sleighton’s posts on the Forum about anomalous experiences with notifications (sometimes not showing up at all, sometimes showing up without thumbnail images). In a post from last month, he was able to get notifications working on Cam v2s again by deleting them from the app and then adding them back, going through the setup and configuration process again. That’s kind of an extreme step, but it might be worth trying if your other troubleshooting doesn’t pan out.

Thank you. As of the last two days I’ve been getting all notifications I should, but I haven’t changed anything. I don’t know, but I’ll try your suggestions if it starts giving me trouble again.

You’re welcome. I wish I had a better answer about notifications. I think I’ve just learned to live with some inconsistency from Wyze, which maybe isn’t the best practice. I still wish I understood why some things don’t show up in the v3.0 app, why all of my cameras send duplicate notifications to my Wyze Watch, and why notifications often show up without a thumbnail. :man_shrugging:
