Doorbell v2 4.51.3.6791 - ruined everything again

TLDR:

  • Wyze won’t give us RTSP
  • I am an idiot for updating firmware
  • Is there any way to rollback Doorbell V2 firmware?

I’m SOL aren’t I?

Since I migrated entirely away from the Google ecosystem, I’ve had Wyze products (Doorbell V2, Battery Video Doorbell, Battery Cam Pro, Pan Cam V3) for about 7 months now and have been constantly creatively solving for the inability to rebroadcast Wyze streams locally.

Started with Home Assistant’s add-on - updated firmware rendered that integration unusable. Migrated to hosting a Scrypted container separately and leveraging the Wyze Plugin. Firmware updates blew that up. And finally I moved away from Scrypted over to self-hosted Frigate/go2rtc with IDisposable’s docker-wyze-bridge. Each and every solution was effectively pulling/converting streams to expose to Home Assistant.

The “Security improvements Bug fixes” that accompanied the firmware update to 4.51.3.6791 for the Doorbell V2 has broken the most recent solution as well. I got tired of “staying current” considering the number of security measures I have within my homelab, so I figured I’d roll things back to the last known stable states - ideally 4.50.15.4800 for the Pan Cam v3 and 4.51.3.4992 for the Doorbell v2. Little did I know flashing firmware isn’t doable on the Doorbell v2? Is this true? If yes, I have a dead doorbell cam know (from a IoT consolidation standpoint) which is super annoying. It’s my fault really - I have auto-update off for all cams, but generally stay current with updates on all my homelab services just as a best practice (easier to debug if I’m forced to update somewhere down the line).

If firmware download links aren’t available for it, then you’d need to try contacting support to see if they’d give you a file or be able to do it remotely, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Until (and if) wyze bridge updates to use the new security, you shouldn’t update any firmware. The only options with the new firmware are RTSP (not supported on the doorbell as you know) or Tiny Cam Pro - which I’m not sure if it has support for that doorbell or not.

Given that there were 3 releases - one notable TUTK fallback feature - since the June.9th firmware release and no issues logged for the HL_DB2, I figured I was in the clear for this update.

I guess I was the first to bother upgrading. Pretty sweet. Cheers man.
