I’m wondering if anyone else’s doorbell camera is strobing…
when I check my phone to see what the camera has viewed, 95% of the time the video is strobing; day, night, it just flashes. we can sort of see what’s being recorded but it’s tough. i don’t know how to ‘share video’ to show you what it looks like (I’m the wrong generation to figure that out)—a strobe light is what it looks like.
I just deleted the app and re-installed it. it’s still looks like a strobe light.
hey @robdebreeb welcome to the forums, You’ve definitely come to the right area to try and troubleshoot a problem like that, as far as being the wrong generation I could highly doubt that as myself some of the other mavens and I know quite a few of the community are older than some might think So unless you’re extremely young and I’m reading this wrong no worries As you recently joined as well, you have to post so many times and have interactions to get your trust level up high enough to make a post with attachments, So maybe in trying to diagnose this we can help you out with that and get you to the point that we can get an upload eventually, but let’s go First off with…
As we now have a couple different doorbells to choose from, can you give a little more insight as to which doorbell you have?
And second to which doorable you have, what type of environment are you running it in? We have a lot of the community that either live in apartments so the doorbell is actually inside a building but the lighting is kind of wonky, Or if you have a house that doesn’t have any good ambient light, sometimes when the camera switches from what it sees as daylight to its night vision it’s right at the very very limits of what night vision thinks it needs and sometimes you’ll see a strobing effect there, I get that a lot with two of my cameras because they’re on the far side of a street light by my house and it’s just enough at certain points that if I have them aimed in a certain way I get the strobing,
What kind of details might you be able to get me, I’ll see what I can do for you and if needed I’ll tag in some friends I have on our team and I’m sure we can help you out here.
EDIT: When you are typing just above your text you’ll see a line of options to change your text or add a link or quote somebody, This upload button here that I’ve highlighted is how you would generally upload a file from your computer be that a picture or a video, But as I mentioned, if you are posting for the first time or nearly immediately after making your account, it doesn’t allow you to do it right away.
Hi Bam!!! I didn’t expect such a fast reply!! thanks! –just to clear things up…i’m 63 years old/no spring chicken. LOL
I have a 1440 HD video doorbell attached to the outside of the back door facing west. We bought it Jan 2024 and it worked fine for about a year or a bit longer. we’re in SW PA and it’s currently dark out–it’s strobing. Earlier today when the sun was rising in the east, it was strobing. hot/cold/light/dark/wet/dry doesn’t seem to make a difference…
it actually quit strobing on Tues but then it went right back to flashing after about 36 hours.
So here’s what I’m going to do, in giving such a descriptive response I don’t think you’re a robot and I don’t think you’re here to spam the community LOL You’re not far off my age so I give you kudos there. The team and I do our best to respond quickly where we can, Luckily I was here first which means I beat out a few other people ( rarely happens!)
I’m going to tag in our moderation team ( @spamoni or @Seapup or @WyzeJasonJ ) and see if they can bump your trust level and see if we can get you allowed to upload a video, so we can see exactly what you’re dealing with, Seeing the situation that is causing the issue might help us troubleshoot it that much quicker and that much more efficiently. I’m thinking it’s right at the limits of the night vision versus day vision settings, Seeing it will help me diagnose that, so let me see if our tags work here and we can get you to upload something to confirm my suspicions
do you happen to know The model of doorbell that you have? You gave me the resolution which I think it has been a while since I’ve had mine hooked up but that might correlate with our first doorbell which was 1080p.
If it helps I’ll walk you through how to find out the information, and then just let me know what you got, what you’ll do is go into the device we are talking about, and hit the gear icon at the top right, Scroll down all the way to the bottom and find where it says Device Info, when you go in there at the very top it will say device model, Giving me that information might help us out a little bit.
Nope it sounds like you gave me all the info I need, it sounds like you have the Doorbell pro. That is perfect, I have also conferred with one of the moderators and it appears as though you should have the trust level to attempt to upload a sample video, if you go into your events for that camera and download the clip that shows the strumming effect, using the instructions that I posted before try to upload a sample of the video that shows the strobing and we can figure this out together. It sounds similar to what I’ve experienced in the past and I may be able to help you a little bit here it’s also possible it might be environmental and sadly a situation which might be right at the interchange of where the camera turns the night vision but if it doesn’t happen quick enough the camera has trouble deciding. If I can see a sample I can definitely tell you what’s up.
@Mavens I wanna take you guys in on this as I am still using duo, but this appears to be the sensitivity jump that we’ve all run into between the twilight regions of setting and rising sun, would you agree there? I’m not running pro right now so I can’t replicate this but usually when my V3 pan does this the strobing isn’t quite as quick, But it appears to be that the camera can’t decide whether or not to go into night vision or not.
@robdebreeb Can I ask what’s your settings are currently for your camera for things like when you go into advanced settings your night vision mode will have Auto slash on Slash Off, And I don’t remember if the pro offers a setting to allow you to adjust at what sensitivity this turns on at, other cameras have two settings one says very low light the other doesn’t, What are your settings on that part?
…would the ‘sensitivity jump’ still be happening after twilight and/or dawn?..it’s pitch dark out right now and it’s still strobing…should I change the ‘automatic’ setting to something else?
Something seems to be wrong with that unit. Even if there was an LED light shining in it which can cause a very minor pulsating effect, it would not be anywhere near that severe. I think it needs to be replaced.
Unless a neighbor doesn’t like cameras and has set up an infrared laser pointing into it or something.
Only other thing I can think, if it is running off wired power, maybe it isn’t getting enough, or the transformer is putting out bad quality power.
I don’t have a Video Doorbell Pro, but I also think this is a defective unit. I think having two different videos from different times and lighting conditions is very helpful—one early morning and one with midday sunlight—because that seems to demonstrate that this isn’t a twilight night vision auto-switching threshold issue.
You could try setting your night vision mode to “On” (which would give greyscale images even with daylight because typical night vision would then be enabled full time) or “Off” and see if that alleviates the effect you’re seeing, but I’m not optimistic about that. I think the question about power is valid, and I wonder about the condition of the battery and if plugging it in or wiring it to a transformer would make this problem go away. That’s something I’d be inclined to try, but I’m still suspicious that this unit is just failing.
Typically the strobing is just at the times where the camera can’t decide if it should go into night vision or not, i’m thinking that this is not the strobing I’ve seen in the past where it’s having trouble deciding on night vision or not, and I’m more inclined to agree with the others here and say that this could potentially be either a power issue or a defective unit. I would reach out to where you bought it from or customer service if you bought it directly from Wyze and see about May be able to be done so you can get a unit that doesn’t show this behavior. The two videos in two different circumstances showing the saved behavior we really can’t tell you how helpful that is. That gives a lot of way about what it could potentially be and because the settings are so vast that’s why I’m more inclined to agree with everyone else here.
We bought it from Amazon so I doubt there’s any warranty…I’m gonna try plugging it in to charge (even though it has 75% battery) just to check the video feed. i neglected to try that before. Either way we’ll probably be replacing it…
Thanks again!!!

As Amazon is an authorized retailer (when Amazon is the actual seller; other sellers use Amazon as a marketplace, so it’s important to pay attention), there should be a warranty that Wyze would tend to honor when something fails within a year of purchase, but since you said you got this in January 2024 you’re probably on your own at this point.
If you do, then I’d consider some other options that might provide some more flexibility and features that you don’t currently have. Note that if you determine that your Video Doorbell Pro is no longer going to be useful, then you likely also won’t have any use for your Chime Pro, as I believe that device is what provides Video Doorbell Pro its connection to your home Wi-Fi, and I believe it’s also paired at the factory to that specific doorbell camera, so it can’t really be used with other Video Doorbell Pros and vice versa. If you have questions while considering other options, then feel free to ask those here in the Forum.
Yep as stated you should still have the warranty through Amazon you just have to have your proof of purchase so your digital receipt. Try through Amazon first and if you get nowhere there call Wyze customer service.
We are glad to help in whatever way we can. If anything else comes up definitely tag me in or tag anyone else that’s been helpful here. This community is helpful beyond measure.
okeydokey!
p.s.–i went ahead and plugged it in…it’s not flashing. so I’m gonna guess the rechargeable battery is going bad. I’ll contact amazon and/or wyze and see if they can be of any assistance.
Thanks to y’all for the help!..and Merry Christmas!!!
