Don't update to Android 16 just yet, bug that affects Notifications Sound after first one

If you have a Pixel Smartphone you may want to hold off updating to Android 16 for now.

The bug affects most all apps, including Wyze and Yes :winking_face_with_tongue: even Reolink…

Android 16 device only plays a sound notification for the first incoming notification, and subsequent notifications from the same app or different apps remain silent until you clear the notification dropdown. This can be frustrating, as you might miss important alerts if you don’t happen to check your notification shade regularly.

This behavior, where only the first notification plays a sound while subsequent ones remain silent until the notification shade is cleared, seems to be a known issue affecting some Android 16 users, specifically described in a Google Issue Tracker entry.

Google is aware of issue and currently working on it, no deadline for the fix.

So if you want continuous notification sounds after initial notification DON’T UPDATE TO ANDROID 16 Yet

Is that this or something else? If it’s something else, then what link can you provide?

I appreciate your sharing this, because I’ve been thinking about doing the update to Android 16 on a Pixel 6, and I think my mom updated hers just yesterday, so I’ll have to ask her if it’s something she’s experienced.

I have the Pixel 6 Pro and the above link is the issue with notifications

You probably should wait to update until it’s resolved

Thanks! That’s better (older, with more discussion) than the one I linked, so hopefully that means a fix will be forthcoming at some point.

I’m in no hurry to update, and I appreciate the heads-up. :+1:

Google Sure is Dragging their A55 on this!
A month later still waiting on update to fix

So this issue also afflicts the Samsung Galaxy A55 and not only Google Pixel phones? It’s like a virus! It’s spreading! :grimacing:

 A55 was in place of Ass…

Don’t know if Samsung was affected, probably not

I knew what you meant. I was just using the opportunity to make a dumb comment. :winking_face_with_tongue:

LoL, Says the Wyze Forum :joy::rofl::joy:

I’m having this same issue on my Pixel. I had to go on the Play store and pay for a “notification manager” to get around this. Finally my notifications are not silenced. I shouldn’t have to pay for an app to fix Google’s mess. Every update on Pixel messes something up. Whatever happened to “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” Going to have to change phones if this keeps happening.

Which Notifications Manager did you choose?

Have a link?

Thanks

FWIW, I’ve tinkered a little with the ad-supported version of MacroDroid in the past, and it also seems to be effective at intercepting (and customizing) notifications. Tasker is reportedly another popular alternative, but I don’t have any experience with that one.

Hey thanks for the suggestion, so this app BuzzKill will allow notifications like before where each one that app will send an alert and sound alert can be customized on the app sending it?

Yes. It is very easy to use. It has rules, you add rules.

On a side note about Android 16, my Lock Screen is sometimes sluggest to wake up.

These rules make my Reolink & Wyze Cams behave as they did prior to the Pixel Android 16 update.

BuzzKill app mentioned above settings I used:

Finally installed it as Google is sitting on their Ass releasing the fix

Yeah, but did they fix the issue with the A55?

My Reolink cameras all have a unique notification for each camera through the Reolink App.

I did see the ability in BuzzKill but didn’t need it…

My Wyze cams only one sends notification and the rest of them notification is OFF.

Wyze cams are only used as a “Toy Camera” in my setup and the Security applications are All on Reolink cams

I went ahead and got the Buzzkill app, Paypal had 1000 points ($10) reward when spending at least $3 on google play, I set it up for both Wyze and Tapo and it been doing great and send me alerts for each one those two rules are set for.
